Who we are

The mission of the University Art Galleries (UART) is to support the educational mission of Texas A&M University by providing impactful visual arts experiences to campus and regional community audiences in both the J. Wayne Stark Galleries and the Forsyth Galleries.  UART serves as steward of its collections, promoting arts advocacy and engagement across the university.

 

What we want

The Curator of Education and Public Programs is responsible to serve as the museum education programming coordinator for the Forsyth Galleries. Responsible for volunteer docent recruitment and training.

 

What you need to know

Salary:  $43,000-$50,000

Position Details: May require occasional evening or weekend hours.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, art education, museum studies or related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of museum education experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Driver's license or ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to develop interpretation for a community with an emphasis on college student audience.

  • Skill in judgment and decision making which will create a forward thinking and visitor focused environment.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in art history, art education, museum studies or related field.

  • Three years of museum education experience.

Essential Duties/Tasks

Program Planning/Implementation:

  • In consultation with the director, develops, coordinates, and implements museum educational programs, including tours, lectures, workshops for children and adults, special classes, lesson plans, exhibit guides and other print and electronic resources.

  • Responsible for the Forsyth Galleries outreach to community audiences. This may require operation of a University or other motor vehicle.

  • Teaches audiences in the museum, including adults, school groups, and college students.

  • Promotes interdisciplinary collaborations, partnerships, and links with other university departments and community organizations.

Supervisory/Administrative:

  • Recruits, trains, and oversees volunteers.

  • Mentors student organizations/classes in the development of educational materials for special exhibitions. 

  • In consultation with director, manages museum education budget.
