Summary of Job Duties:

The UAM College of Technology-McGehee is searching for a Counselor to work as a member of the Student Services team. The Counselor is responsible for a host of critical student support services: recruiting of students, coordinating large campus events (such as Career Day, open houses, and new student orientation), coordinating the College’s academic alert program, serving as the primary academic advisor during new student registration, working with students and faculty to establish disability services accommodations, serving as advisor to the National Technical Honor Society (the College’s student leadership program), proctoring exams, as providing mental health support to students, as needed.
The candidate selected to fill this role should be a natural leader who is passionate about vocational education and student success and retention. They must be a visionary self-starter able to work autonomously with little supervision, but also able to work collaboratively as a team member to follow-through with projects. Additionally, they must be able to develop relationships and connections with high school students, guidance counselors, workforce personnel, and members of the community at-large to sell the programs and their value at the College of Technology-McGehee. They also must be comfortable with public presentations. This position requires the counselor to frequently be out of the office recruiting students at a variety of places, such as high schools, job fairs, and cold-calling businesses.
This position requires occasional evenings and Saturdays.

Qualifications:

The selected candidate must hold a master's degree in counseling, education, or related field with a minimum of five years recent experience in education--counseling licensure is highly preferred. Having experience and knowledge of higher education/student success policies and practices is also highly preferred. They must be a natural leader and must have exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. They must be able to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, educational partners, and external agencies and organizations. They must be able to sell the programs of study and their value to a plethora of constituency groups to build a pipeline of students into those programs of study. Must have proficient computer skills, good organizational skills, the ability to pay careful attention to policy details, and must be able to work a flexible schedule to provide occasional evening and Saturday services.
