Minimum Requirements:

Counselor I: Master's degree from an accredited university in counseling, social work, counseling psychology, or marriage and family therapy.  Must be licensed to function autonomously in KY or be able to obtain such licensure within 12 months of hire.

Counselor II: Master's degree from an accredited university in counseling, social work, counseling psychology, art therapy, clinical counseling or marriage and family therapy.  Two (2) years of experience in a clinical or counseling setting, including a college counseling center or community agency. Must be licensed to function autonomously in KY. Must be eligible to provide clinical supervision to 1+ graduate student trainees in compliance with licensing board requirements.

Position Description:

The primary function of this staff member will be to provide licensed therapeutic services including individual, group, couples, and crisis intervention, to enrolled UofL students. This is a Full-Time position (37.5 hours) and is located on the Belknap Campus of UofL. Position title will be determined by Education, Experience and Qualifications. There are multiple Counselor I and II positions available.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An earned Doctoral degree from an accredited university in counseling, social work, counseling psychology, art therapy, clinical counseling or marriage and family therapy
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with eating disorders, substance treatment and trauma counseling.
  • Experience with group therapy.
  • Experience working with diverse populations including LGBTQ, international, military veterans, diverse cultures. 
  • Experience working on a college campus .
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with office employees, administration, faculty, staff, students, and families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides evidence-based and culturally competent counseling services including intakes, individual, group, and couples counseling to students, both in-person and via a telehealth platform
  • Conducts substance abuse evaluations and assessments.
  • Prepares and maintains records, evaluations, and reports in an accurate and timely manner, in accordance with professional and ethical standards.
  • Consults and collaborates with Campus Health providers, Student Affairs, campus partners and outside agencies when needed
  • Provides outreach services, including resource fairs, tabling events etc. Conducts outreach presentations on mental health topics to students and various minority groups including LGBTQ and veteran students.
  • Assists campus partners such as various schools, departments or units in the evaluations of high risk cases and participates in campus crisis response following disruptive events.
  • Serve/represent the Counseling Center on University and Divisional committees as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
