Description of Work Unit
Provide administrative, management & professional services to facilitate and accomplish new construction, renovation, and/or replacement of the physical facilities and infrastructure of the campus in support of the University’s mission and strategic plan.
Position Summary
This position exists to provide a full range of remodel planning/management services involving alteration, modification, maintenance and repair of state buildings. This position is fully-operating project manager responsible for accurate estimating, scheduling, problem resolution and completion of projects. This position also determines practical solutions to maintenance and repair problem while ensuring compliance with state and university rules; act as a liaison between the facility users, trades personnel, contractors and supervisory Facilities personnel; uses knowledge of all trades areas to provide technical construction advise; and maintains accord with all involved on issues of planning specifications, scheduling and completion of projects by keeping open and factual lines of communication with all parties involved. Projects are usually funded at not more than $2m unless approved by the Director of Facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate the following in the application:
High School diploma or GED certificate AND six years of construction and/or construction design experience, which must have included one year of experience assisting with the construction project management process (project scope development; project design development; project consulting; budget development; scheduling; and/or compliance).
Substitutions
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field (Civil Engineering; Structural Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; or Electrical Engineering), from an accredited, non­ correspondence college or university, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. But not for the one year of experience assisting with the construction project management process.

Preferred Qualifications
Highly sought applicants will have some or all of the following:
  • Enhanced knowledge of State and CSU construction policies and procedures
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field
  • Demonstrated understanding of the International Building Code (IBC)
  • Demonstrated knowledge in construction trades
  • Leadership skills and ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders
  • Related state service experience

Estimates project by making sure contractors quotes fall within acceptable parameters as determined by Purchasing Department. Checks in-house quotes for accuracy in description of work and pricing.
