What we want

Off Campus Student Services supports off-campus living through educational outreach, programming, student support services, and searching for housing. The Student Development Specialist III – Community Liaison will oversee the Community Liaison Services which includes supervising the Neighborhood Specialist. Specifically, this position is responsible for overseeing neighborhood relations and liaising with Texas A&M student leaders and stakeholders from the cities of Bryan/College Station regarding town/gown relations. A successful candidate will have experience in educational programs and presentations, comfortable with networking and has the ability to be flexible in supporting this developing unit.  

 

What you need to know

Starting Salary: $45,000 - $48,000 (Based on selected hire's education and experience)

Position details: Employees Supervised - (1) Student Development Specialist II

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years’ experience in student affairs work or related specialty area with a bachelor’s degree, with two years of experience in Student Affairs.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Attention to detail.

  • Dependability.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Willingness to work as part of a team to support and educate students.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable.

  • Eagerness to learn about city and town regulations.

  • Knowledge of program development and execution.

  • Ability to work independently.  

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Masters in student affairs related areas preferred.

  • Two or more years of experience working with off-campus or commuter students and/or conflict resolution.  

  • Two or more years as a Student Development Specialist II.

Essential Duties/Tasks  

  • Management and Coordination of Community Liaison Services - Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with external constituencies including Bryan/College Station Apartment Association, local property managers, Bryan/College Station governmental offices (recycling, bikeways, etc.), and the Bryan/College Station Police and Fire Departments. Coordinates the Be a Good Neighbor program. Manages all town relations, serving as the primary external liaison with emphasis on cultivating and maintaining strong ties to all city services. Serves as Troops2College departmental representative. Regularly attends, with the Assistant Director, Be a Good Neighbor city meetings. Works with campus constituents to create opportunities for off-campus living education. Develops and oversees all educational components including but not limited to lease law, roommate relationships, and city ordinance/codes. Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with campus student leaders to address town/gown community connection and opportunities.  

  • Event Coordination - Coordinates the planning, development, and implementation of programs for off-campus students to meet the strategic initiatives, goals and budgets established by the office team.  

  • Supervision - Supervises Neighborhood Engagement (SDS II). This includes planning and implementation of new staff training for these individuals, coaching, and performance evaluation. 

  • University/Division/Department Duties - Serves as a representative on Department, Division, and University committees and task forces, at events, and to department stakeholders as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
