Sr Communications Specialist


Job Description

The Center for American Institutions (CAI) is seeking to hire a Communications Specialist Sr to manage all aspects of CAI communications. This position is responsible for establishing, coordinating, planning, promoting, and implementing guidelines and policies for electronic and print communications which includes web design, social media, print marketing, electronic marketing, reports, event programs and other communications materials as assigned. The CAI Communications Specialist Sr is responsible for the overall quality of center communications materials.

Salary Range

$65,000 - $70,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Edits, writes, and prepares layouts for web pages, annual reports, brochures, newsletters, and other publications.
  • Creates and maintains web pages using Drupal and other computer software.
  • Manages projects, including day-to-day functions (coordination and integration of information) as well as long range planning and design, working with technical services providers and end users.
  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned communications interns and assistants.  
  • Monitors work in progress and upon completion.
  • Implements corrective action as required.
  • Oversees and manages communication budgets.
  • Coordinates print and electronic needs with center leadership regarding print and electronic communications needs.
  • Develops ideas and suggests modifications to existing ideas.
  • Demonstrates graphic techniques and advises departmental personnel on techniques, software, training opportunities, style rules, etc.
  • Resolves issues concerning web and print communication.
  • Communicates with other department and university communicators, ASU media relations, ASU news, ASU events, Enterprise Brand Strategy team, and others. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or other related field AND four (4) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge with and demonstrated execution of the ASU brand.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Drupal platform and ASU website requirements.
  • Experience using Salesforce.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
