GENERAL DESCRIPTION | The Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH) is a consortium among Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), and the food industry. IFSH comprises IIT scientists and staff, FDA scientists of CFSAN’s Division of Food Processing Science and Technology physically co-located in the building, and industry member companies. IFSH is a unique and one-of-a-kind institute in the nation where FDA, academia and the industry join forces and conduct research in a neutral ground to address major national food safety and nutrition issues. This role reports into the Manager, Business Development and Communications. The Communications Specialist will support the IFSH website ongoing communications, publicity, and thought leadership through multiple channels (social media, website, blogs, newsletters, etc.) to share the ongoing stories of our work. This individual works independently on the marketing and communication for the member programs, workshops, training and related events at Moffett Campus and/or externally. They will also assist in the logistics for the execution of training and events. |

Special Schedule Requirements | This position primarily works between the hours of 9:00AM – 5:00PM, Monday through Friday. |

Qualifications
Education & Experience | Requires a Bachelor’s Degree or 5+ years of professional experience in Communications and/or Marketing. |

Knowledge & Skills | Requires exceptional project management skills; ability to work autonomous as well as with others; leadership skills; ability to handle confidential and sensitive information; strong professional writing and email etiquette skills; organizational skills and multi-tasking; excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate on all organizational levels. Advanced computer skills including MS Office , SharePoint, Zoom, Acrobat and/or Canvas etc. Willing to learn other software as needed (i.e. Eventbrite, Constant Contacts). |

Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibility | Support the IFSH website ongoing communications, publicity, and thought leadership through multiple channels (social media, website, blogs, newsletters, etc) to deliver . Initiate, and deliver IFSH communications content to IFSH stakeholders, members and general public, to promote training courses/workshops/events to target audience, utilizing IFSH website, social media, printed content, etc. Works closely with IFSH staff and FDA scientists on updates for IFSH website content, as needed. Work closely with the other IL Tech campuses, to promote certain IFSH events in their communications. |

Oversee and manage set logistics for training courses, programs, events and workshops (virtual/in-person). Responsible for creating registrations pages, promote on IFSH website, distribution of material as appropriate, and communicating with the instructors/speakers and attendees as needed. |
