Job Description

The Communications Specialist I, under general supervision, writes content for annual publications, brochures, flyers, news, social media, and research stories. The team member also facilitates the design process with the design team for the creation of marketing and communications materials. The position is designed to meet the needs of a unit where multifaceted expertise is required. This position is designed to promote all aspects of the Lab, much of which involves support and promotion of two symposia, the Turbomachinery & Pump Symposia, and Asia Turbomachinery & Pump Symposium.

Responsibilities:

    • Writes content for annual reports, brochures, flyers, news releases, technical papers, proceedings, newsletters, posters and presentations, and web.
    • Coordinates content schedule and responsible for maintaining the lab’s digital presence.
    • Design graphics for small-scale projects (flyers, social media, web).
    • Assist the Communications Manager in capturing and producing photo and video for small-scale events and activities (short courses, research features).
    • Manage the Lab’s social media accounts with organic and paid content. Monitor performance of posts and campaigns.
    • Responsible for serving as a communications liaison to carry out the marketing plan between media partners and the design team.
    • Assist Digital Media specialist in building out mobile app for symposia.

    Required Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • No experience required.

    Preferred Experience

    • Experience managing sites on WordPress platform, running social media for a business (organic and paid), editorial writing, and assisting with technical tasks, including learning and navigating new software.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including creative content creation, and demonstrative skills in immersive social media. 
    • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Wordpress or similar web content management system, working knowledge of search engine optimization, and working knowledge of various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.).
    • Must be technologically savvy in order to assist with optimization of event software.
    • Able to work in a collaborative team environment and use/operate applicable computing equipment.  
    • Demonstrate outstanding ability to interact effectively with people at all levels.
