The ASU Alumni Association is seeking an experienced Communications Specialist who is looking for a place to shine- a place that is collaborative, collegial and curious.  

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional writing skills, a strategic mindset, and a proven track record in developing effective marketing materials. We would like to review some work that made you proud: three examples of your exceptional writing that’s been published, a story or a work plan you created that shows strategic thinking and an example of marketing materials you created.

Salary Range

$52,000 - $58,000 per year


Essential Duties

  • Craft compelling narratives that highlight the value and impact of Alumni Association events and programs, encourage reader engagement and drive attendance and participation in events/programs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand the goals and objectives of the Alumni Association events and programs and incorporate it into marketing collateral to maximize awareness and attendance for upcoming events.
  • Develop and implement strategic messaging that aligns with overall ASU marketing and communication strategies.
  • Develop persuasive copy for promotional materials, including event invitations, posters and emails to promote events, programs, and key initiatives.
  • Conduct in-depth research to identify noteworthy achievements, experiences, and milestones that highlight the unique journeys of our alumni.
  • Foster engagement through interactive and personalized communication strategies.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the ASU Alumni Association’s values and mission to effectively communicate these aspects to the audience.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all communication materials by adhering to established ASU brand guidelines.
  • Work efficiently to meet tight deadlines for multiple competing projects.
  • Attend and actively participate in events hosted by the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, Education or a related field AND three (3) years of related work experience in the development of comprehensive and creative communication; OR seven (7) years of related work experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.  Certificates from recognized programs that verify mastery of tools and techniques relevant to the assignment may substitute for up to six (6) months of experience.

  • Knowledge of marketing practices and principles. Knowledge of media placement and basic graphics design concepts. Skill in:
  • Strategic communication planning.
  • Principles, concepts, and practices and project management.
  • Best practices of communication and marketing methods and techniques.
  • Communication assessment, editing, research, and summary.
  • Written and verbal communication, oral/written/media presentation.
  • Planning communication resources and media technology.
  • Design and creative communication styles.
  • Leadership, collaboration, and teambuilding.
  • Ability to work with a variety of constituents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external committees, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Ability to demonstrate research, publication, and presentation experience.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  •  Some activities are performed onsite at events.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
