Position Summary

We are looking for a talented Communication Manager to join our team. In this role, you will be the driving force behind our digital content strategy, responsible for creating engaging social media posts, developing internal and external communications, and curating compelling stories for national publications.  But that's not all – as part of this highly cross-functional role, you'll also have the chance to interact with students, bolster brand awareness, cultivate customer advocacy, and oversee a team of enthusiastic student members.   We're seeking someone with a results-oriented mindset, a passion for innovation, and the ability to juggle multiple projects with finesse. Collaborating closely with our Marketing and Communications team, you'll help implement best practices and identify opportunities to captivate audiences across various social media platforms.  If you're ready to bring your energy and creativity to the table, driving impactful communication initiatives in a fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you!

Duties include:

* Develops, directs, plans, coordinates, and implements the communication strategies and initiatives for the department.

* Seeks out opportunities to promote the value of Culinary Services to our guests and public.

* Ideates, develops and oversees the social media content and strategies.

* Analyzes the results of communication efforts, making recommendations for increased effectiveness.

* Develops new content for internal and external communications including newsletters, emails, websites, advertising and press releases.

* Creates and executes innovative social media marketing campaigns to support traditional media, public relations, and advertising activities and to promote department events.

* Participate in formulating annual marketing plan.

* Attends events to assist in promoting the department.

* Produces content with photography and video.

* Utilizes design skills to develop content and materials.

All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.


Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Telecommunications, or Public Relations; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or computer programming/technology; experience managing content for social media channels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Highly skilled in Adobe software including Photoshop, inDesign, Illustrator as well as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
