About Duke Life Flight


Pursue your passion for caring with Duke Life Flight, which is Duke Health's critical care and emergency air and ground transport team, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems. The team includes paramedics, nurses, respiratory therapists, emergency medical technicians, and communications specialists who work quickly to provide compassionate care and transport services to critically ill patients of all ages. Duke Life Flight also maintains a Code Blue Response Team and helps support event medicine needs.

Job Summary:

Provides overall coordination of business-related functions, such as, but not limited to:  budget, personnel, planning and policy development and interpretation, as they are related to Event Medicine and EMT Cadet business lines.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Preferred:

Requires four years of related clinical experience to gain expertise in the principles and procedures of the Critical Care Transport arena.

Experience as a Paramedic is required.

Bachelor’s degree required

Management experience in Emergency Medical Services or Critical Care Transport preferred

Job Summary:

  • Determine fiscal requirements and make recommendations for the Life Flight Event Medicine line of business.
  • Monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds as relate to Event Medicine activities
  • Serve as liaison with University and County personnel as relate to Event Medicine and 911 response activities.
  • Supervise and coordinate work of designated employees and manage personnel activities
  • Maintain interface with departmental personnel to coordinate operational activities to ensure adequate staffing, coordination of purchasing, and implementation of new contracts
  • Ensure safe environment of care for all staff, patients, and families. 
  • Ensure effective processes for staff development, recruitment and retention. 
  • Develop and support unit, shared governance structure  
  • Participates in organization and departmental meetings as required
  • Validating accuracy and completion of payroll records for direct reports
  • Direct departmental personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, and scheduling of Event Medicine staff and EMT cadets
  • Provides availability by cell phone / pager for rotating on-call duties

Work Hours & Shifts:

Full time 40 hours per week

Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:

NC Paramedic Certification is required

BLS Certification is required
