Position Summary
The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, founded in 1975, is one of 47 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country. The Center’s mission is to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and the nation through research, treatment, training, and outreach.
The Lab’s focus is to understand how gene expression is regulated in T lymphocytes. We are interested in dissecting how T cells differentiate and perform their immune functions. We try to understand how aberrations in the differentiation process can result in autoimmunity, inflammation or malignant transformation. Particular emphasis is placed on the TET family of proteins that are involved in DNA demethylation and are frequently mutated in hematologic malignancies. We use a variety of approaches: mouse genetics, multicolor flow cytometry, biochemistry as well as next generation sequencing to evaluate the transcriptome and the epigenome.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Demonstrated skill in the operation and maintenance of basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, cell culture incubator, thermal cycler, balances, pipettes, sterile biosafety hoods, equipment for PCR gel electrophoresis.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Previous experience with mouse work (ex: mouse handling, injections, adoptive transfer, bleeding, and genotyping) and cell culture.
-Experience in cell culture and flow cytometry.
-Previous work with primary T cells or other lymphocytes.
-Experience in implementing murine models of immune mediated and infectious disease.
-Knowledge of mucosal immunity and inflammatory processes.
-Molecular Biology Techniques
-Analytical software: Prism, Excel, FACS Diva, FlowJo.
