Job Summary:

This position provides advanced clinical support in the Oral Surgery and Urgent Care/Emergency Clinic to undergraduate dental students, faculty and other clinic staff. This includes patient preparation and coordination, applying an advanced understanding of sterile techniques, performing infection control procedures, maintaining patient data and records, and performing and developing dental radiographs.

Key Responsibilities:

Urgent Care/Emergency Clinic & Undergraduate Oral Surgery Clinic (95%):

All Clinics:

  • Clinical area preparation including stocking and ordering supplies.
  • Greet and seat patients.
  • Use an electronic health records system to process various transactions (i.e., assign dental students patients, chart accurate procedures and codes).
  • Use of sterile techniques and infection control procedures.
  • Check out instruments; Inspects appropriate instruments/tools for good working order.  
  • Coordinate with oral surgery clinic when moving patients from Urgent Care clinic to Oral Surgery.  
  • Ensure all the proper procedures are consented for correctly.
  • Complete x-ray quality assurance.
  • Respond to medical emergencies in the SDM building including notifying the SDM medical response team and or 911.
  • Develops, mount, and identifies radiographic films. 

Urgent Care/Emergency Clinic:

  • Coordinate with endo clinic to schedule patients correctly including all AxiUm forms.

Undergraduate Oral Surgery:

  • Assign patients to Undergrad Oral Surgery students in AxiUm.
  • Schedule patients for oral surgery.
  • Help students with post-operative instructions that are given to the patient.
  • Work on oral surgery referrals.
  • Make follow-up calls to every patient seen in the oral surgery department.
  • Verify and work with students and faculty to oversee competencies are being completed.
  • Coordinate with students to assure patients are being seen in a timely manner.

Clinical Educational Support (5%)

  • Support the educational mission of the SDM, including role modeling and coaching students on how to function as a dental assistant in both four-handed chairside activities and in clinic operations support.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of dental care and/or assisting experience. Substitution: Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute for one year of experience.

Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent experience working in a fast paced dental environment 
  • Experience with clinical area preparation in a dental clinic and/or office. 
  • Experience taking x-rays
  • Experience performing and developing digital dental radiographs.
  • Experience in sterilizing dental tools, instruments and equipment.
  • Experience working with students and faculty in a higher education and/or academic medical environment
  • Experience working with multiple doctors

  • Familiarity with OSHA and HIPAA guidelines, SDM and university policies, standards of practice, and processes

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range for this position has been established as $3,091 - $4,277 per month.

    The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
