As a member of the Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels (AAMOW) team, the Client Care Associate will play a vital role in protecting the health and quality of life for the individuals that are served through our program. With the support of more than 250 volunteers, AAMOW serves 400+ individuals in our community each year who range in age from 20-100+ and are homebound due to physical and/or mental health reasons. The person in this role will be responsible for driving a University vehicle to deliver meals to homebound clients, conducting wellness checks, interacting with clients and their caregivers, reporting any concerns to the AAMOW team, and providing administrative support in the AAMOW office. To be successful in this role, candidates should have a passion for working with older adults and individuals with disabilities. AAMOW is seeking candidates who are highly dependable with exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills who can successfully work within a dynamic team.

  • Deliver meals and other tangible resources to homebound clients living in shared housing, apartments, condos, and freestanding homes
  • Conduct wellness checks with AAMOW clients and communicate any concerns in real-time to the AAMOW team
  • Deliver meals to U-M Health senior cafe programs and the AAMOW office
  • Ensure that all regular vehicle maintenance is scheduled and completed in a way that decreases interruptions to AAMOW's operations
  • Complete regular cleaning of coolers and the University vehicle
  • Support general office operations, including preparing the office for each delivery day
  • Collaborate with the AAMOW team on service provision, processes, and identifying and implementing quality improvement activities
  • Provide occasional staffing support on the weekends and holidays, as needed
  • Other duties, as assigned
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Minimum of five (5) years driving experience
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a University vehicle for five (5) hours per day in all types of weather
  • Physical ability to frequently get in and out of a van multiple times each day
  • Physical ability to lift and carry a minimum of twenty (20) pounds
  • Physical ability to walk up and down stairs
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, both in person and on the phone
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and complete tasks accurately and thoroughly
  • Due to administrative functions, must pass pre-employment screening
  • Clean driving record
  • Knowledge of the Ann Arbor area streets/communities
  • Experience working with older adults and/or persons with disabilities
  • Experience effectively deescalating situations
  • Critical thinking skills that will result in quality improvements and increased efficiency
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Skilled in organization, multitasking, and prioritizing tasks
  • Experience working in client databases and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiarity with Michigan Medicine policies and procedures

This is a part-time, 25 hour per week position. The anticipated schedule for this position will be Monday-Friday from 9:15am-2:15pm with occasional Saturdays and holidays.

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
