Position Summary
Will support the implementation of Project ARK’s HIV/STI testing and other HIV/STI prevention-related programs and coordination group programming for gender and sexual minority youth. Key goals for this position are community organizing, mobilization and empowerment to facilitate the creation of a young gay and bisexual men’s community in which young gay and bisexual men encourage each other to support one another and practice safer sex. This position will have a strong knowledge of evidence-based HIV/STI prevention, human sexuality, and positive youth development. This position will also discuss scientifically accurate safer sex and prevention strategies with diverse populations of youth and young adults, specifically young gay and bisexual men.
This role will have experience working with persons from diverse backgrounds, along with a demonstrated commitment to cultural competence and the delivery of culturally responsive health care. Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

HIV/STI Testing Services

  • Conduct HIV/STI screening and sexual health counseling to diverse youth and adults, which includes administering rapid HIV tests, specimen collection (i.e., blood, urine, pharyngeal & rectal swabs) and/or blood testing, as well handling/transporting specimens in the office and in outreach (mobile) settings.
  • Coordinate outreach testing activities by identifying community partners and outreach sites to increase access to HIV/STI testing.
  • Coordinate/Conduct HIV/STI screenings in 3-5 outreach settings per year.
  • Complete all required training and documentation for all HIV/STI testing and client interventions.

HIV/STI Prevention Navigation Services

  • Screen individuals seeking HIV/STI testing and/or prevention services for needs related to HIV prevention, mental health, substance use, and other sexual health goals.
  • Develop care plans with clients to identify goals and needed resources to meet stated goals related to HIV prevention, mental health, substance use and sexual health goals, utilizing Motivational Interviewing strategies.
  • Provide linkage and ongoing support for clients to meet goals in partnership with internal services (HIV/STI testing and treatment, PrEP, mental health/substance use counseling), and external community resources through in person, text and email communication.

Coordination/Community Implementation

  • Coordinate the peer outreach and groups of an evidence-based HIV prevention and community-building program for young gay and bisexual men between the ages of 18 and 29.
  • Design and implement outreach activities and group programs.
  • Organize weekly outreach planning meetings and groups programs.
  • Develop age and culturally appropriate materials, referrals, and education for young gay and bisexual men.
  • Collaborate with Social Media Coordinator on social media campaign to promote HIV/STI testing and PrEP engagement and address HIV/STI stigma and education.
  • Utilize various strategies (such as, but not limited to, social media, outreach to community leaders, attending community events, etc.) to connect young gay and bisexual men to prevention services and activities.
  • Manage community condom distribution focused on serving young gay and bisexual men by identifying and maintaining communication and supplies for community distribution sites.

Administrative

  • Collaborate with key community stakeholders, including the St. Louis Regional HIV Coalition and associated committees to coordinate and enhance HIV/STI prevention service delivery.
  • Assist with quality control and quality assurance tasks for the Project ARK HIV/STI testing program, which may include managing the testing supply and condom inventory and test kit controls.
  • Complete reporting requirements as assigned to demonstrate effective implementation of projects.
  • Participate in Project ARK/The SPOT staff meetings including assist in identification of key agenda items to strengthen the prevention team and services provided.
  • Participate in regional and state level integrated HIV/STI planning bodies and their subcommittees as requested by the Prevention Manager and Prevention Director.

Other Duties

  • Foster a spirit of teamwork and collaboration and excellent customer service.
  • Maintain required HIPAA compliance, skills/competencies and participate in staff trainings and meetings, continuing education, and cross-training programs according to established standards and Washington University policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities to ensure appropriate clinical outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule

  • Working hours may include evenings and weekends, as necessary. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Group programming development and facilitation experience.
  • Background and expertise with providing sexual health services.
  • Experience with successfully creating key partnerships and collaboration.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity about the needs and issues of various subpopulations such as youth, racial and ethnic minorities, sexual and gender minorities, and people living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Support of harm reduction philosophy and client-centered approach in prevention.
  • Program planning, implementation, and evaluation experience.
  • Strong verbal communication and written skills.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours with notice (evenings and weekends).
  • Possess a Class E or CDL license, or be willing to obtain one for mobile unit operation.
  • Basic understanding of health care.
  • Knowledge of community resources. 
  • Computer skills.


Required Qualifications

Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in a health related field, such as social work, counseling, sociology, or psychology. Applicants with a bachelor’s degrees in other fields may be considered with sufficient case management experience.

Salary Range
$20.17 - $30.24 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
