Job Summary:

The CU Cancer Center is seeking a full time Cancer Screening Research Network (CSRN) Hub Program Manager to provide leadership and oversight for our ACCrual, Enrollment, and Screening Sites (ACCESS) Hub within the CSRN. The CU Cancer Center’s ACCESS Hub is called: Improving Strategies for Cancer Reduction through Early-detection and ENgagement (I-SCREEN). 

The overall purpose of the CSRN is to evaluate new screening technologies and tools such as Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED) tests. The I-SCREEN Hub Program Manger will provide coordination of the CU Cancer Center’s research activities across all institutions participating in the I-SCREEN Hub. Research partners include but are not limited to: Keefe Memorial Hospital, Salud Family Health Clinics, Kaiser Permanente Colorado, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. The I-SCREEN Hub Program Manager will also be responsible for communication with the National Cancer Institute, the CSRN Coordinating and Communication Center, and the CSRN Statistics and Data Management Center. In collaboration with CU Cancer Center leadership, and the CSRN leadership and the I-SCREEN Principal Investigator, this position will oversee activities related to study activation and start up, reporting of study and accrual metrics to meet grant requirements, ensure sites and investigators remain in good standing for continued participation in NCI sponsored research studies, and act as a resource to affiliate sites to ensure all aspects of trials being conducted at sites follow regulatory and clinical compliance.

Examples of Work Performed

I-SCREEN Operational Oversight 50%

  • Serve as the I-SCREEN subject matter expert and primary point of contact for investigators and research staff; provide assistance or direct request appropriately to ensure quick resolution of issues and questions raised.
  • Ensure adherence to all research standards as set forth by the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP), University of Colorado Health (UCHealth), University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Anschutz), National Cancer Institute (NCI) and other pertinent regulatory agencies for all the affiliated sites in the I-SCREEN Hub.
  • Direct activities related to study procedure and set up in accordance with NCI/CTEP requirements including but not limited to site rostering, NCI Central Institutional Review Board (NCI CIRB) authorization, and credentialing.
  • Travel to selected I-SCREEN participating sites to provide training, conduct compliance monitoring, provide general assistance, and guide audit preparation as needed.
  • Oversee activities related to staff onboarding, credentialing, and rostering in accordance with UCCC and NCI requirements. 
  • Work in partnership with other I-SCREEN staff and investigators to facilitate I-SCREEN study start up and recruitment activities.
  • Participate in staff and investigator training activities by presenting to new hires as needed, providing I-SCREEN relevant research training to staff, affiliate site staff and investigators as needed, and update trainings to remain relevant as needed.
  • Plan and direct investigator and coordinator meetings such as the I-SCREEN monthly meetings. Attend and participate in the annual CSRN in-person meetings and other virtual meetings as required.
  • Utilize resources in the CSRN and the Cancer Center Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) to identify barriers to participation and work with key stakeholders to develop strategies and processes to minimize barriers to enrollment.

I-SCREEN Grant Support 20%

  • Serve as a liaison with the PI and I-SCREEN Grant Administrator for budgeting, contracting and financial oversight with external sponsors and internal offices, developing annual study budgets as needed, reviewing study financials monthly, and addressing any budgetary shortfalls in a timely manner with the I-SCREEN PI. 
  • Compile data, assist with writing narrative for annual progress reports and competing renewal submission; collaborate with the PI to ensure compliance with the I-SCREEN grant submission timetable. 
  • Establish and maintain processes for capturing relevant data for reporting to staff, investigators, and NCI. Relevant data includes but is not limited to study activation timelines, study status, accrual, and participating site study and accrual volumes.

Reporting and Compliance 30%

  • Develop standard operating procedures, guidelines and/or other documentation pertinent to functional areas of responsibility as needed.
  • Monitor regular activity reports and work with clinical research teams to confirm complete appropriate entry in CTSU, OPEN and other applicable systems to ensure appropriate activities have been logged; conduct ad hoc audits for compliance.
  • Establish and define Process Improvement (PI) priorities as needed to ensure compliance and appropriate oversight of the program. Use internal and external audit findings to identify trends and inform process improvement efforts and activities and educational needs.  Report to the PI and Leadership on process improvement activities and findings as needed. 
  • Manage any NCI or CSRN audits as needed including planning, conduct and follow up activities; collaborate with investigators and staff at all participating locations to ensure all audit activities are handled efficiently and completed in a timely manner.
  • Communicate site performance metrics to I-SCREEN recruitment sites as well as the CSRN Coordinating and Communication Center and Statistics and Data Management Center. 

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is hybrid with a need to be on campus in Aurora, CO for approximately 40%-50% of the time.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: A bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, nursing, healthcare, business administration, business, communication, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Experience: Minimum of 4 years of clinical research experience with at least one (1) year of experience with NCI sponsored research and at least one (1) year of project management experience. The NCI and project management experience can be included in the 4-year total. 

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/professional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis. Associate’s Degree plus two (2) additional years of related work experience will substitute for the Bachelor’s degree. A master’s degree or other advanced degree in a related field can substitute for the bachelor’s degree. 

Preferred Q ualifications :

  • Familiarity with NCI Central Institutional Review Board (CIRB), Clinical Trial Support Unit (CTSU) and Cancer Therapy and Evaluation Program (CTEP) processes and requirements as they pertain to clinical research.
  • Familiarity with non-treatment clinical research study design and operational practices in academic and community-based practice sites
  • Clinical Research Certification (CCRC, CCRA, RAC, etc.)
  • Experience with grants and/or contracts funded through the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $66,472-$84,552.
