FULL-TIME/PERMANENT CAD MANAGER (ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN SUPERVISOR) Capital and Asset Management Program (CAMP) Olympia, Washington – Thurston County Manage a team of engineering aides involved in the design, development, and fabrication of various architectural, structural, electrical, civil, mechanical, agricultural (irrigation piping systems), hydraulic (schematics), pneumatic (air delivery systems), and apparatus (electronic levels, water levels, and flow meters). Provide technical support to Project Managers, in-house and Consultant Design Engineers within an engineering application, as well as providing external Program staff technical assistance with work requests. With that in mind, Picture yourself, assigning projects and actively managing your team workload to aide project delivery. This is an opportunity to utilize your knowledge of construction standards and techniques and available reference material and knowledge of CAD techniques. With your experience, you will prepare drawings generated from topographical maps developed from survey information and prepares detailed construction plans developed from rough sketches or verbal instructions supplied by Project Managers and Engineers. Duties: Our CAD Manager will Supervise Staff: Supervises and mentors technical and professional level staff in order to support an effective, motivated team. Interview applicants and make recommendations for selection of applicants. Assigns projects and actively manages team workload to aid in project delivery. Sets goals and objectives, develops strategies to implement, and develops performance measurements and standards for the purpose of ensuring individual and program performance objectives are met. Monitors and inspects work in progress to ensure continuity and timely completion of work. Develops the Performance Development Plan (PDP) for each assigned employee within unit; creates or updates position descriptions; monitors and documents employee performance; provides on-going feedback regarding levels of performance and conducts timely and meaningful employee performance evaluations. Manages personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc. in a positive manner for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Develops and implements staff training and development plans to provide cross training of employees, specific job-related training, and other approaches to provide opportunities for staff flexibility and development. Participates in project coordination meetings, communicates status of ongoing projects and/or job tasks, and coordinates work schedule with team for the purpose of maintaining open communication. Prepare Engineering Plans: Using AutoCADD Civil 3D, prepares conceptual, preliminary, permit, and final contract drawings for use by Department crews or public works contracts for the construction renovation and maintenance of Department Facilities. Facilities include administrative buildings, residences, hatchery buildings, storage building, freezer buildings, water intake and delivery systems, rearing and holding ponds, viewing facilities, boating and hunting access areas and their facilities, fishing piers, ramps, floats, etc. Assists in pre-plan projects providing sketches, drawings, quantities and cost estimates. Ensure quality control: Review drawing sets submitted by architect/engineering firms for completeness and consistency with standard designs and drafting standards Develop and maintain agency drafting standards. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work Setting, including hazards: Duties are normally performed in an office setting, requiring extensive computer use. Duties will also occasionally include working outside in inclement maneuvering over uneven ground. Schedule: Duties are typically performed in an office setting between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. However, a varied schedule may be required including working Saturday or Sunday and overtime. WDFW supports Hybrid and Flexible work schedules. Travel Requirements: Some travel may be required throughout the State to attend training, meetings, and conferences, as well as field assignments. Tools and Equipment: Standard computer hardware and software, and AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam and Smartsheet. Customer Interactions: Customer service is integral to department success. As the primary point of contact for CAMP drafting services, the CAD Manager interacts frequently (several times per week) with project managers, design engineers, planners, surveyors, real estate staff, facilities coordinators and contracts specialists to plan and assign new projects.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Six (6) years combined education and experience with engineering procedures and practices; finest drafting and illustrating techniques; mathematics, including a wide variety of complex engineering formulas; construction practices and current releases of Autodesk AutoCAD, Land Desktop, Raster Design and Civil 3D. Note: Training/coursework pertaining to the position may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required experience. One (1) year of supervisory experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: College-level course work with major emphasis in engineering, architecture and/or drafting.
