 The Business Systems Analyst will be responsible for configuration, set-up, testing, and documentation of a university wide shipping platform in HUIT Campus Systems. Additionally, this role will interact with teams in Harvard Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S). This position will be responsible for translating business requirements into functional solution designs, engaging with stakeholders, and leading independent deliverables and projects. The ideal candidate must demonstrate keen problem-solving ability along with proven leadership and facilitation skills. Strong knowledge of supporting and configuring Software as a Service (SaaS) applications is critical.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the members of a cross functional team supporting activities, including requirements gathering, application configuration, development of presentation materials, story development, customer outreach, issue management, research, peer outreach, user provisioning, testing and end user training in order to deliver a university wide global shipping platform
  • Interview key stakeholders across the schools, EH&S and end users to analyze business processes and system’s needs; translate business requirements into user stories with supporting test scripts
  • Meet with stakeholders to field direct requests, discuss requirements, and collaborate on solution design including business process and policy related matters where applicable
  • Take a lead role in understanding the operating requirements for delivered products and work with the team to analyze and clarify internal and operational requirements
  • Work with the technical team to review stories and assure that acceptance criteria are well understood as part of the Agile development process
  • Work with EH&S staff to develop processes supporting compliance and other regulatory requirements
  • Build expertise in the Software as a Service platforms for operational, analytic, and ad hoc reporting
  • Develop test scripts and execute testing to ensure new products, enhancements, bug fixes, upgrades and patches function as expected and without introducing operational issues
  • Provide functional support during project/release go-lives, which may include occasional evening or weekend work
  • Assist with general administration, special projects, and perform other related job duties as needed
  • Work at a high level within a team on most phases of service analysis and consider the business implications of technology applications to the current and future business environment
  • Contribute to the definition of systems requirements, conduct gap analysis, and identify feasible alternative solutions that meet defined business objectives
  • Perform user needs analysis, product evaluation, selection, customization, testing, implementation, and support

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Familiarity with eShip Global, FedEx, UPS and other shipping systems is a plus 
  • Familiarity with procurement to pay systems is a plus 
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills 
  • Excellent communication skills and technical writing ability  
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office  
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly  
  • Solid understanding and demonstrated use of iterative development (preferably Agile) desired  
  • Proven communications and writing ability 
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, especially with the ability to manage and track many details and facts and understand how each detail fit into the "big picture" 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment; willingness to do what it takes to meet critical deadlines 
  • Adept at evaluating problems accurately and displaying sound judgment, including measured risks and timely escalation  

Certificates and Licenses

  • Completion of Harvard IT Academy specified foundational courses (or external equivalent) preferred

Working Conditions

Interview and onboarding activity for this position may be conducted via telephone & Zoom video conferencing, based on the department’s current presence on campus.

This position will be based in Cambridge, MA. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you will begin your work remotely. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA, CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT). The fully remote nature of this job is only temporary. Once the University and your supervisor determine that it is appropriate, in person on-campus work will be required as a condition of continued employment.  

HUIT is currently developing hybrid workplace models which will actively support some remote work (within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business) where business and team needs allow. Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process.
