The Business Process Improvement Lead role at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) will complete business process analysis projects including providing recommendations and execution for the following areas: Analyzing, designing, and streamlining business processes, prioritizing actions, coordinating stakeholder engagement, and holding workshops focused on strategy activation.  This project aims to implement Lean and other methodologies to optimize processes, reduce waste, and enhance overall efficiency at UCCS. This supplemental position involves leading a diverse range of business process analysis and redesign activities in many functional and administrative areas of the college. The Business Process Improvement Lead at UCCS works under the general supervision of the Project Management Office (PMO), reporting through the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance. This role requires a high degree of autonomy and the ability to make decisions within established guidelines. The Business Process Improvement Lead will collaborate with project and functional teams, which may consist of diverse professionals and subject matter experts on a cross functional, campus-wide, and business unit basis. They will provide process analysis, facilitate communications, and delegate activities as necessary to meet project objectives.

Based on relevant experience, you will be tasked with supporting one of the following key projects at UCCS:

UCCS Compensation Strategy Development and Implementation: Spearheading the development and execution of a comprehensive compensation strategy to attract, motivate, and retain top talent.

Performance Management Revamp: Revitalizing our performance management system to foster a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.

Contracts Management Project Implementation: Overseeing the implementation of a robust contracts management system to streamline and standardize contractual processes.

Business Process Analysis and Standardization: Conducting thorough analysis and standardization of HR, budget, and fiscal procedures across campus to enhance efficiency and consistency.

Job Duties:

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to document and understand existing processes.
  • Engage key stakeholders throughout the analysis process to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Solicit feedback and input to incorporate diverse perspectives into the improvement plan. Key deliverable: process and maps and documentation
  • Identify and map existing business processes across relevant functional areas.
  • Create detailed process maps to visualize the flow of activities and dependencies.
  • Conduct a thorough and comprehensive assessment of current processes in the designated functional area(s) and identify pain points and areas for improvement.
  • Document key areas of waste, redundancy, inefficiency, and bottlenecks. Key deliverable: current state analysis report.
  • Research industry benchmarks and best practices to inform improvement recommendations.
  • Provide comparative analysis to demonstrate potential improvements relative to industry standards.
  • Apply Lean and other business process improvement principles, such as value stream mapping, 5S, and waste reduction, to optimize processes.
  • Identify opportunities for standardization across campus departments and colleges and possible automation to enhance efficiency.
  • Outline a roadmap for the implementation of Lean and other business process improvement methodologies to streamline workflows.
  • Provide a timeline for the phased implementation of proposed improvements. Also include resource requirements and key performance indicators for each phase. Key deliverable: Lean and Business Process Improvement recommendations report.
  • Develop a detailed written business process improvement strategy and implementation plan outlining recommended process enhancements to streamline operations and eliminate waste. Key deliverable: actionable improvement plan.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure successful implementation of initiatives identified.
  • Ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members on Lean and other process improvement principles and methodologies including written training materials and documentation.
  • Establish mechanisms for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of implemented business process initiatives using the identified key performance indicators.
  • Recommend adjustments and improvements based on feedback and results.
  • Provide comprehensive process assessment reporting for areas addressed.

Work Location: On-site, occasional travel to project sites and off-campus meetings may be necessary.

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

What We Offer:

Salary Range: Generally starting at $37 - $42 per hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Project Management, Engineering) or equivalent work experience.
  • Two years of experience with business process analysis and improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of PMI (Project Management Institute) best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certification in relevant process improvement methodologies such as Lean.
  • Five or more years of experience with business process analysis and improvement methodologies.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Asana, Trello).
  • Familiarity with university policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements:

This position is primarily office-based and does not typically require significant physical exertion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit.  Employees are occasionally required to move. Tasks may involve using a computer screen continuously for long periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
