Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics seeks an experienced and professional staff member to serve as Business/Finance Coordinator in the Business Office. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, the Business/Finance Coordinator will manage human resources, procurement, and other essential business operations within EPIB. This individual will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of faculty accounts, ensuring that resources are well managed, accurately reported and comply with federal and state regulations as well as University of Maryland policies and procedures. The Business/Finance Coordinator will assist the Business Manager with post-award management and administration of grants and contracts along with non-sponsored research commitments for faculty in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. This position must follow the University financial management standards, general management and accounting principles, practices, methods, and techniques. They will work as a liaison to units throughout campus, including but not limited to, the Comptroller’s Office, Accounts Payable and Procurement, and will assist in all financial areas of the department as needed. A successful candidate must be able to work independently and demonstrate the ability to apply various policies and procedures to various situations. In addition, a successful candidate must be enthusiastic, positive, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and have a demonstrable ability to take initiative.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience:
  • Three years of experience performing payroll, accounting, or human resource functions.
  • Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credit being equivalent to one year of experience.

  • Knowledge of State and UMD policies and procedures .
  • Excellent oral, written, and customer service skills Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to use financial accounting systems to prepare and analyze complex spreadsheets and reports.
  • Ability to organize and execute multiple assignments with overlapping deadlines.
