Position Summary
Building Support Workers are responsible for executing the setup and teardown for special events/activities/programs including all associated cleaning, moving/rearranging of furniture, and securing buildings for proper use.
Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Prepare, clean, and set up meetings, special events, and programs including moving, arranging, and storing furniture and equipment and staging rooms accordingly.
  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain living, teaching, studying, work, research, and public spaces.
  • Respond to tenant needs and requests; report building damage or the need for repairs; and respond to emergency calls for custodial assistance.
  • Work outside to remove snow, ice, and debris from entrances, steps, and sidewalks, using various tools and products as directed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment
  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • This position is subject to overtime (both scheduled and unscheduled).
  • This position may work a non-traditional schedule, typically weekends and holidays.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and availability to accommodate special events, emergencies, and/or unscheduled work assignments is required.
  • Physical ability and willingness to move, and arrange tables, chairs, staging, and equipment.
  • This position will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) during specific work duties as determined by the department.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and tolerate frequent bending, stooping, and climbing stairs. Lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
  • This position has been designated as essential and may require reporting to work when the university is officially closed.

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and effectively communicate with others and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand charts, floor plans, and diagrams, and follow through on tasks to completion once instructions are given.
  • Physical strength and agility to move, and arrange tables, chairs, staging, and equipment.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered cleaning equipment, work with and properly use or learn to use cleaning chemicals and agents, including dilution and dispensing systems.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and tolerate frequent bending, stooping, and climbing stairs. Lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of commercial cleaning practices.
  • Experience working as a custodian.
  • Experience performing event set using floor plans or diagrams.

Advertised Pay Range Up to $35,000 commensurate with experience.
