Bioinformatics Research Analyst - Cardiology

Position Summary
The Prabhu laboratory focuses on understanding the role of inflammation and the immune system in heart failure. The lab has uncovered evidence for broad immune dysregulation in heart failure that contributes to tissue injury and pathological cardiac remodeling, and ultimately to disease progression. These abnormalities encompass both the innate and adaptive immune systems and specific signaling pathways within immune cells. The laboratory uses animal models of both genetic and acquired heart failure to investigate mechanisms of disease. This requires the use of cardiac surgery, echocardiographic imaging, and hemodynamic assessment in mice, and the use of flow cytometric, histopathological, biochemical, and molecular approaches. We hope to use these findings to develop new immunomodulatory therapeutic strategies in experimental heart failure, with translation and correlation to human disease.
Provides critically complex research and experimentation for division allowing the advancement of scientific analysis and discovery. Serves as a subject matter expert offering support, training and guidance relative to the discipline/area. May participate and/or present on the research developed, or the established work of those within the division.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Implements: Algorithms and computer software for analyzing omics-based data sets [high-throughput, massively parallel genomic/proteomic/clinical]; Data management and analysis solutions that aid in the storage, investigation and dissemination of large data sets.
• Coordinates research project with other investigators and institutions.
• Participates in developing hypotheses and experimental design.
• Assists with reporting of methods, data and results.

Preferred Qualifications

• Analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
• Good understanding of computational biology.
• Ability to analyze and interpret large complex data sets, such as genome sequencing, microarray gene expression studies, human genetic studies and model organism studies and to communicate data in a clear, concise manner.
• Expertise in standard bioinformatics tools.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field plus two years of experience; OR master’s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field; OR combined education and experience of seven years.

Salary Range
$40,900.00 - $74,200.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
