Job Overview

The Edwards Lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology in the Georgetown University Medical Center invites applications for a Bioinformatics Programmer - in an entry level role - in a highly collaborative environment to work on glycoinformatics and glycoproteomics projects for a NIH funded glycoscience portal.

Work Interaction and Work Mode Designation

The Bioinformatics Programmer reports directly to Dr. Edwards.

This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.  Such review may necessitate a change to a position’s mode of work designation. A Hybrid work schedule may be negotiated.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience on research bioinformatics and/or computational biology projects – preference for ability to show evidence of this experience in publicly visible projects
  • Strong Python, C++, Java, and/or JavaScript programming skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in any of the following: glycoinformatics; mass-spectrometry, proteomics, and glycoproteomics data analysis; semantic web technologies and ontologies; bioinformatics portals and data resources; and computer algorithms and data-structures for graphs and trees
  • Technical skills that include high-performance and cloud computing and related DevOps skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, high motivated, and ability to work independently

The expected pay range for this position is $47,586 to $65,000 per annum.

Georgetown University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity and external market pay for comparable jobs.
