Position Summary

Organization: Justice, Access, Support & Solutions for Health dba Casa de Salud

Location: 1608 Isleta Blvd SW   Albuquerque, NM  87105

An Off-Campus Work-Study position - MUST Have a Work-Study Award

Casa de Salud Medical Clinic is located in the South Valley of Albuquerque and offers fair priced, integrative healthcare to patients who commonly lack access to adequate healthcare services. The clinic promotes a learning and leadership development environment for practitioners, staff and apprentices, and provides a nonjudgmental, culturally-appropriate team-based environment for our patients.

The Casa de Salud Health Apprentice Program is a unique opportunity in which those aspiring to healthcare professions, as well as those who feel a strong interest in learning about healthcare commit to working one year (or more) at the clinic. Most Health Apprentices are volunteers but we do accept work study-eligible students into the program.

Casa de Salud Health Apprentices assist in many aspects of patient care and clinical operations at the clinic and are trained in various tasks including patient communication and scheduling, taking vitals, drawing blood, preparing blood and urine samples for lab work, assisting in procedures, performing EKGs, and attending to Harm Reduction (syringe exchange) clients. Health Apprentices play a major role in running the clinic, they help to open and close the clinic, serve as language interpreters for clinicians who require interpretation, and perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties in addition to direct patient care.

Such opportunities for hands-on clinical work and patient interaction are extremely rare or otherwise unheard of for undergraduate students, and in most cases only become available to aspiring medical professionals at the time of residency following professional school.
Following review of your application and accompanying materials, if it is determined that you could be a good fit at Casa de Salud, you will be contacted for an interview. The interview will be conducted in both English and Spanish, and you should be prepared to discuss your interests in community or clinical healthcare, your area of study and your goals for the future. If you are a person inclined to work hard, stay focused, be positive, and improve your professionalism, this will be a great position for you!

The Casa de Salud Health Apprentice Program seeks to provide a pipeline to diversity in healthcare professions in New Mexico. Women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ people are highly encouraged to apply.
