Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Brain Health Institute (BHI) within the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.  Under direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Fellow  will work as part of a highly integrated research team utilizing a variety of laboratory technologies and approaches. Specialized skills in behavioral pharmacology are required for this position to studying the neural basis of addiction, reward and cognition. S/He will work as part of a highly integrated research team utilizing a variety of laboratory technologies and approaches, including modeling: addiction in laboratory animals, immunohistochemistry optogenetics, DREADDs, and in-vivo electrophysiology.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Conduct research into brain substrates of mood, memory and other neuropsychiatric disorders in rat models.
  • The project includes developing a new approach to treat such disorders involving circuits that regulate the brain locus coeruleus system.
  • The research will use intravitreal injections of DREADD vectors, immunohistochemical analyses, as well as assays for depression-like behavior as well as anxiety and memory tests, in wild-type as well as Alzheimer’s disease model rats.
  • Analyze data, organize and present findings at laboratory meetings and major scientific meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • A PhD degree in neuroscience or a relevant science, with a focus on behavioral models of addiction or decision-making. 
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrates a record of productivity as first author on one or more scholarly peer reviewed publications.
  • Training in animal handling and behavioral models of addiction, as well as experience in biological techniques; including electrophysiology· and microdialysis techniques, microinjection of pharmacological agents, tissue sectioning and processing, immunohistochemistry and microscopy.
  • Able to operate standard laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, incubators, shaking incubators and plate readers.
  • Proficiency in English for both verbal and written communications is a requirement.
