Position Summary and Duties
The Benefits Assistant will serve as the first point of contact for the benefits and wellness office, answer general benefits-related questions, complete data entry and general benefits administration, coordinate and track leave.
Customer Service & Administrative Support
• Provide administrative support to the assistant director and director.
• Serve as the benefits unit primary point of contact for customer service providing accurate and timely responses and solutions.
• Handle benefit inquiries and complaints to ensure prompt, equitable, courteous resolution, escalating unusual situations to the director.
• Answer phone calls and responds to emails promptly.
• Serve as back-up support for front desk reception.
Benefits Administration
• Coordinate and manage Self-guided New Employee Benefits Orientation for onboarding new employees.
• Process health and welfare benefit plan enrollments related to new employees, employment changes, terminations, deaths, and life events.
• Process/update employee data related to benefit plan enrollments such as address changes, beneficiary requests, etc.
• Maintain benefits and COBRA enrollments with insurance carriers.
• Audit and reconcile vendor bills and enrollment data. Process benefits invoices.
• Maintain employee benefits in HRIS system.
• Maintain the benefits website and enrollment system, ensuring up-to-date and accurate data regarding health and welfare benefit plans and tuition remission programs.
• Process tuition remission requests
• Process childcare voucher reimbursement requests.
• General retirement plan enrollment questions/inquiries.
Leave Management
• Respond to general requests for information.
• Coordinate and track FMLA.
• Report and track Workers’ Compensation. Maintain and post the OSHA log in accordance with regulations.
• Report and manage LTD Application Process.
• Coordinate all other LOAs.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s or vocational/technical school degree.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Human Resources, benefits and/or administrative customer service.
  • Experience with data entry and use of integrated data systems including report generation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and project management skills with ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Detail oriented with strong customer services skills and ability to keep utmost confidentiality.
  • Ability to perform high volume work timely and accurately.
  • Ensures that deadlines are met and adapts to changing priorities.
  • Proficient use of MS Office products.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply technically oriented laws, regulations, rules, and policies.
  • Ability to support the mission and values of a Catholic Jesuit education, as well as University goals for institutional diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
