Who We Are

The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Texas A&M University researches the physical processes that influence and determine our climate as well as providing insight into how and why the climate changes. This is an enormous topic and covers spatial scales from atmospheric chemistry, aerosol particles, air pollution, cloud particles, with radii of microns, to large-scale atmospheric waves, with length scales of thousands of kilometers. Topics studied in the department include the physics of convection, climate variability, feedback physics, climate sensitivity, climate extremes, and regional modeling. Variability and predictability of climate on seasonal to millennial timescales, coupled ocean-atmosphere interaction, large-scale dynamics of the atmosphere and the oceans.

The Assistant Research Scientist will perform research on a frontier relevant to air pollution and climate change – the formation and impacts of atmospheric aerosols. The position's research activities will include experimental studies, theoretical simulations, and field measurements. The selected candidate will be involved in the preparation for a major research proposal addressing climate change and air pollution. What You Need to Know

Salary Range: $60,000 - $62,000 per year

Required Education and Experience:

  •  Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences or Chemistry is required

  •  Three years relevant professional experience

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in Atmospheric Chemistry

  • Knowledge in Chemical Kinetics

  • Knowledge in analytical instruments for aerosol technology

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Prior Postdoc experience

Responsibilities:

  • Atmospheric Research: Conducts atmospheric chemistry research. Preforms experimental studies, and theoretical simulations. Performs field measurements relevant to climate change and air pollution.

  • Lab Management: Interacts with undergraduate and graduate students. Manages the laboratory for atmospheric chemistry research.

  • Preparation for Research Proposals: Prepares for research proposals addressing climate change and air pollution. Participants in preparation of proposals relevant to climate change and air pollution. Performs other duties as assigned.
