Texas A&M University is designing and building a state-of-the-art enterprise network and is seeking leaders to ensure the development and support of specialized areas. In the role of Associate Vice President (AVP), Technology Operations you will ensure development and support of endpoint and server solutions while improving existing processes and creating efficiencies. Responsible for the implementation and monitoring of TAMU’s operational processes, server management, platform support and endpoint management.

You will provide thought leadership to the executive leadership team on best practices and themes in the context of strategies and challenges and will lead enhancements, innovations, and maintenance teams in support of university-wide technology services. This position reports to the VP of IT and CIO.

This is an Export Control position which requires an individual to be a United States Citizen. Salary is commensurate with experience.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ten years of experience directly leading and developing operations team(s) of IT services, including seven years of combined experience managing team(s) of server admins, system engineers and other IT personnel
  • Ability to coordinate and execute cross-functionally with both technical and business (staff/faculty) personnel
  • Strong leadership, communication (written and oral), and collaboration skills
  • Ability to navigate fast-moving, complex scenarios supporting multiple initiatives and goals, across matrixed stakeholder groups


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems
  • Strong experience leading planning and execution activities for large-scale enterprise systems and projects
  • Strong experience developing and implementing enterprise solution and integration strategies, vision, and guiding principles based on best practices, standards and business needs
  • Experience with successfully maturing distributed and disparate IT environments into a centralized enterprise IT
  • Extensive experience in multiple, diverse infrastructure and application technologies
  • Experience in technology road-map development and implementation
  • Experience achieving results in challenging and distributed environments
  • Experience driving change and effecting process improvement through organizational influence

  • Ability to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of hardware, software, application, and systems engineering along with instruction and leading teams
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into high-performing technical solutions
  • Ability to prioritize work appropriately considering risk, financial impact and expectations of delivery



Responsibilities

Leadership - Partners with colleges and divisions to define, develop and execute the IT strategy for all IT Operations across Texas A&M University (TAMU). Directs divisional and departmental projects, programs, initiatives, and operations. Supervises assigned staff. Represents the Vice President, Division and University internally and externally. May Assumes additional supervisory and management responsibilities in the Vice President’s absence.

Planning - Leads in project delivery, enhancements, innovations, and maintenance teams in support of enterprise technologies. ​Ensures development and support of end-to-end solutions while improving existing processes and creating efficiencies. Leads in the development and implementation of the division’s strategic plan, establishing division goals and objectives.

Research and Innovation - Leads a university-wide program of transformation for all IT Operations. Researches and identifies federal and state funding opportunities for division programs and initiatives.

Policy Development and Implementation - Drafts and administers relevant University policies, regulations, and rules. Monitors and analyzes state and federal legislative issues. Directs and assesses continuous improvement efforts.

Budget and Finance - Develops, administers, and advises the Vice President on the annual budget process and provides guidance to division units.

Problem Change Management- Assists the Vice President in division administration. Advises the Vice President on internal and external issues affecting the division operations. Serves as a member of the divisional leadership team. Collaborates with internal and external entities to facilitate initiatives, and coordinates special projects as assigned by the Vice President. Performs other duties as assigned.

Professional Development - Participates in training and professional development sessions.
