Job Description

Description: Tenure-track, 9 month undergraduate and graduate teaching and research/scholarly activity position in the Department of Animal Science.  Proposed employment date is September 1, 2022 or until successful candidate is identified.

This position will serve a critical need in a large and rapidly-expanding Department of Animal Science at Tarleton State University.  The department, which currently serves over 900 students with it’s B.S and M.S. degrees, is planning to launch a PhD in Animal Science in the during the next 2 years.  This position will play a pivotal role in the successful program launch and initial doctoral student recruitment, teaching and research activities.

Essential Duties:

Teaching:  60% Teaching: Teach graduate and undergraduate courses within her/his area of expertise in animal science. The applicant will be expected to develop specialty and graduate courses in her/his area of expertise, develop and implement an effective teaching program, using appropriate methodology, technology and other tools.

Research/scholarly activity:  40% Research: Develop a sustainable, nationally recognized, extramurally funded research program in her/his area of expertise, including but not limited to genetics, nutrition, physiology and ethology; serve as one of a small team of faculty launching in a new a doctoral program.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Animal Science or closely related discipline.  Experience as a faculty member in a department with a PhD in Animal Science.  Success in service as committee chair of PhD student committee(s).  Evidence of a sustained, extramurally funded research program and success in graduate program development is essential.

Administrative Relationships: The position reports to department head in the Department of Animal Science at Tarleton State University.
