As a senior-level administrator within the department, the Associate Director is responsible for the design, implementation, and assessment of a variety of programs that support the development and leadership capabilities of staff and students.
This position provides direct supervision to the Assistant Director for Staff and Graduate Assistant Development, Strategic Priorities and Initiatives, the Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, and shares oversight of the Human Resources embedded staff member. This position also oversees departmental contracts, facility operations, and supports the strategic planning and assessment processes for the department. Starting Salary: $80,000 (Based on selected hire’s experience)
Professional Development: May be eligible for up to $3,600/year of departmental funding for professional development opportunities and conference attendance.
Position Details: Employee will supervise (2) Assistant Director. Evening work and/or travel may be required.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Eight years of administrative experience in student affairs administration or related field
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to lead and supervise others effectively
Understanding of and vision for the important role student affairs plays in promoting a comprehensive learning and living environment
Expertise in student organization advising and student leadership development
Demonstrated ability to promote student learning through connecting in-class and out-of-class experience
Familiarity with contemporary risk management issues and practices in complex higher education settings
Preferred Qualifications:
Three to five years of (post Master’s) full-time experience in progressively responsible positions in higher education or related area
Doctorate in higher education or related field
Thorough grounding through both formal study and experience with higher education law
Ability to develop and lead teams, create and manage budgets, develop and execute fundraising efforts, plan strategically, assess and evaluate programs and services
Knowledge of and experience with computers, budgets, administration, and student development
Ability to present material to small or large audiences.

Essential Duties/Tasks:
Director Staff - Serve on the leadership team of the Department of Student Activities. This includes strategic planning, budgeting and financial management, coordinating special projects, and assisting with information management for the leadership team.
Supervision and Oversight of Full-Time and Graduate Staff Development - Directly supervise the Assistant Director for Staff Development and Graduate Assistant (GA) Team. Oversight includes indirect supervision of the development and preparation of 6 GA's, design and activation of strategic priorities, evaluation of career readiness initiatives, regular supervision meetings, professional development discussions, attendance at team meetings and programs when appropriate.
Supervision and Oversight of Fraternity and Sorority Life - Directly supervise the Assistant Director for the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (OFSL). Indirectly supervise this team, which includes 5 additional FTEs. Supervision and oversight include regular supervision meetings, professional development discussions, attendance at team meetings and programs when appropriate. Assist with the advising, programming, and other initiatives associated with this area to support the approximately 60 chapters and 6,600 students.
Strategic Planning, Assessment, and Initiatives Oversight - Oversees the department’s strategic planning and assessment efforts and tracks key initiatives. Coordinate university level reviews of the department such as Comprehensive Program Reviews and system audits. Develop, coordinate, track, and submit the department’s annual assessment data to the university/division. Compile key assessment findings in support of the Department's mission. Serve as a departmental representative on the Division of Student Affairs Assessment Team.
Facility Operations Management - Maintain emergency preparation plans for the department including, but not limited to, the department operations and safety manual and department continuity plan. Host an annual safety briefing for staff and provide additional training as appropriate. Manages the safety and security of facilities, including property and facility inventory management.
Human Resources Oversight and Liaison - Serve as the department liaison to embedded HR staff, inclusive of "dotted line" reporting for a Human Resources Generalist III. Responsible for oversight of HR processes and decisions that directly impact the department. Work closely with Director to make final departmental HR decisions. Participate on university, division, and department committees and task forces as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
