The Department of Health Sciences is an interdisciplinary department in the Bouvé College of Health Sciences, one of nine colleges at Northeastern University. We provide a world-class education in a broad range of public health and clinical careers that promote the health and well-being of individuals, communities, and populations in culturally diverse contexts. We are committed to evidence-based research and research translation to eliminate health disparities. Our department is a unique, transdisciplinary setting that incorporates teaching, learning, and serving, in a rapidly evolving, multicultural environment that includes perspectives based on diversity by race, ethnicity, class, ability, language, gender, sexuality, age and nationality. The Department currently includes 47 faculty engaged in research, teaching, and practice, many of whom are jointly appointed in other schools within Bouvé and in other colleges across the University.

 

 

About the Opportunity:

 

The Department of Health Sciences, in Bouvé College at Northeastern University, invites applications for an Associate Director of New MPH Initiatives & Visiting non-tenure track role. This is an open rank, non-tenure track, visiting faculty position with the possible opportunity for renewal. Faculty rank (Assistant/Associate/ Full) is dependent upon expertise and qualifications. The Northeastern Master of Public Health program is a CEPH accredited program with over 140 students currently enrolled in the program. The current program offers both full and part-time degrees as well as both on-campus and online degrees. The Associate Director will coordinate the development and implementation of new MPH initiatives. The new accelerated experiential Master of Public Health (MSe) program will be launched in Fall semester 2022 and is designed to be completed in one year.  It is a hybrid program consisting of online coursework coupled with on-the-ground experiential learning that will be integrated throughout the program.  The MPH program on the Boston campus will also be implemented next year in Bouvé College’s new Charlotte, NC campus.

Responsibilities:

The Associate Director of New MPH Initiatives will oversee the development of the MSe including the updating of existing online MPH courses, formation of industry partnerships, coordination with MPH faculty, and development of experiential learning components within the program. In addition, the Associate Director will oversee the implementation of the MPH program in Bouvé College’s new Charlotte, NC campus. This position will include teaching responsibilities.

 

 

Qualifications:

Minimum degree requirement by the appointment start date is MPH with a preference for a doctoral degree (e.g. PhD or DrPH in Public Health or a related field). Applicants should have a strong record of excellence in teaching and a demonstrated ability to mentor a diverse community of students. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

 

Candidates should have a strong background in foundations of public health, project management, program development and implementation, as well as expertise in health disparities and community-engaged programs.  The candidate’s expertise may focus on areas such as health equity, socioeconomic determinants of health, structural racism, substance use, mental health, health technologies, and/or environmental health. We are seeking candidates from diverse backgrounds.

 

Candidates must demonstrate a background of successful teaching at the graduate level in a university setting.  Expertise in teaching undergraduates is also desirable. Candidates should have a strong familiarity in developing, implementing, and teaching online courses. Preferred candidates will have a background in experiential learning and practical applications of public health programs in diverse community settings.
