The University of Tennessee College of Law invites applications for the position of Associate Director of Admissions and Recruitment. In collaboration with the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid (DAFA), the Associate Director of Admissions and Recruitment (ADAR) will develop and execute recruitment strategies for maximizing applications from and yield of highly qualified students. In this regard, the ADAR will oversee marketing efforts and outreach in coordination with the Office of Communications. In addition, the ADAR will engage in the active recruitment of prospective students, including by advising them about the application process, the basics of financial aid, and the law school experience, particularly at the College of Law. A critical aspect of this role will also be to analyze and assess the College of Law’s admissions process to ensure compliance with legal obligations, in consultation with the Dean, the DAFA, and Admissions Committee Chair, on a regular and systematic basis. In addition, the ADAR will review and assess applicant files, making admission recommendations to the DAFA and/or Admissions Committee.

 

The Associate Director responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

·       Produces a yearly schematic of potential recruitment events, dates, locations, etc. and provides to the DAFA for approval to ensure that funding is available to cover the costs of the travel and maximum return is achieved.

·       Works with DAFA to plan the associated budget, mindful of making efficient and optimally beneficial use of law school resources.

·       Represents the College of Law at numerous recruiting events throughout the country throughout the year, seeking to educate and attract prospective students.

·       Conducts outreach to and meets with pre-law advisors, primarily regionally, but also nationally, at various undergraduate institutions.

·       Oversees and coordinates targeted recruiting via telephone calls, emails, and personal or virtual interactions with applicants on a regular basis.

·       Serves as the primary point of contact for counseling sessions for walk-in visitors, fielding external phone calls, and responding to emails sent to the general email box.

·       Oversees, coordinates, and plans Admission Events designed to attract prospective students to the College of Law, including Admitted Student Day (signature spring event), as well as other local and regional events.

·       Works with the Associate Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement to develop and execute recruitment strategies to increase the applicant pool and yield of students from underrepresented groups, including the creation of pipeline programs at the collegiate and secondary school levels.

·       Responsible for the creation of a yearly strategic plan and budget to maximize utilization of resources for recruitment and marketing initiatives.

·       Works with the Dean, DAFA, and Admissions Committee Chair to systematically analyze and assess the overall admissions process to ensure compliance with legal obligations, on a regular basis.

·       Conducts reviews and assessments of a substantial portion of applicant files and, under the direction of the DAFA, assists in the preparation of related statistical and analytical reports designed to enhance the development of strategic recruitment efforts; utilizes UNITE (nationwide law school admissions software program).

·       Recommends admission decisions, which are subject to final review and confirmation by the DAFA or the Admissions Committee.

·       Manages the coordination and scheduling of tours of the College of Law for prospective students and their guests.

·       Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising of student tour guides, as well as other students who are engaged as volunteers to actively participate in the recruitment process.

 



Qualifications

Required Experience and Abilities

 

Bachelor’s Degree and at least three years of professional experience.

Master’s Degree or JD Degree and 3-5 years of experience is preferred. Experience with budgetary process and strategic planning is preferred.

 

A valid driver’s license is required. 

 

 

The candidate must have:

·       Outstanding professional and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate comfortably with varying audiences.

·       Exceptional supervisory, management, and organizational skills.

·       Outstanding oral and written communications skills; detail-oriented.

·       Proficiency in the effective use of social media and the aptitude to learn and use at a high level multiple software platforms.

·       Sound judgment, discretion, and ability to adhere rigidly to confidentiality obligations.

·       A positive attitude.

·       The ability to work well independently and collaboratively.

·       Knowledge of graduate/law school admissions practices and knowledge of the legal profession and previous customer service experience (preferred).
