This position is responsible for driving digital marketing initiatives for an expanding portfolio of Harvard Business Online programs offered globally.

Reporting to the Director, Digital Marketing for HBS Online, this position is responsible for  managing the strategy, execution, and analysis of a cross-channel media plan, including paid search, search engine optimization, email nurturing, associated website landing pages, display advertising, and podcasts. The position requires close collaboration with the internal marketing team, external advertising agencies, and media vendors. The Associate Director manages the external advertising agency to optimize paid digital marketing efforts and the internal marketing automation team to align full funnel nurturing campaigns to achieve enrollment objectives.


Position Description

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate broadly with Marketing and Product Management content, and creative resources to design and deliver innovative, differentiating marketing strategies that drive qualified prospects, applicants and enrollments
  • Direct the efforts of outside advertising agencies and ad networks who are responsible for creating, executing, optimizing, and reporting on media buying strategies to optimize the marketing budget to achieve enrollment objectives
  • Analyze (trends, KPIs) and provide regular updates and recommendations for marketing campaigns and enrollment drivers to support the needs of the Product Management and Analytics teams
  • Drive continuous improvement to marketing automation (ex. email/text) via Salesforce Marketing Cloud and manage resources needed to execute changes
  • Design campaigns and customer journeys that flow from marketing strategy
    • Drive targeting/segmentation strategies to be utilized in paid media (search/social) and Salesforce Marketing Cloud nurturing campaigns
    • Provide detailed analysis and reporting for full marketing funnel optimization efforts
  • Responsible for effective staff management for a group or team of employees, including hiring and orientation, training and development; workflow and performance management, and the promotion of an inclusive and innovative work environment
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, internal IT resources, and external vendors (as needed) to iterate and optimize the user journey from awareness to consideration to  enrollment
  • Direct freelance writers, proofreaders, advertising content creators, and other outside vendors
  • Support additional targeting and data segmentation needs for marketing events and direct media campaigns
  • Work closely with marketing and product management leadership, and other Harvard Business School Online and HBS staff
  • Understand integrated marketing planning, content marketing, and awareness of the latest in marketing best practices and trends
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 7+ years of marketing experience required

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience leading integrated multi-channel marketing campaigns
  • Strong organizational, analytical, creative problem solving, and project management skills a must
  • Demonstrated experience in improving marketing performance, using innovative marketing strategies, and collaborating across departments to improve business results
  • Experience with Salesforce CRM, HTML, web analytics packages, and database marketing preferred
  • Experience with digital media buying tactics (including programmatic media), Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and lead nurturing preferred 
  • Working knowledge of latest digital marketing, data privacy, and web accessibility trends to inform strategic planning and regulatory compliance
  • Proficiency in marketing automation technology, and familiarity with analytical and database tools preferred
  • Pitches in where needed - “no job is too big or small”

Additional Information

This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus several days per month. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.
