About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

This position is part of the Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning through Research (CATLR) team that provides comprehensive and robust instructional support for educators, with the aim of continuing to define the frontier of evidence-based, integrated, experiential learning. 

The individual in this position will lead Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) events and programs, as well as partner with educators and other stakeholders across Northeastern's Global Network with the goal of bringing evidence-based practices and processes to the learning experience.

While collaboration with individual educators and units will focus on course and learning experience design, this position will also design, develop, and lead both online and on-ground offerings for Northeastern educators.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate or terminal degree.

  • Experience teaching in higher education.

  • Knowledge of learning sciences and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). 

  • History of presentations and/or service at the national level, ideally with publications in the field of SoTL.  

  • Ability to develop written resources, presentations, and effectively facilitate workshops for educators.

  • Verbal and written communication skills that will enable engagement with faculty across a variety of disciplines, collaborative work within teams, and individual consultations. 

  • Ability to engage and partner effectively with multiple stakeholders across different organizational levels.

  • Investment in diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging (DEIAB) in teaching and learning.

  • Experience providing confidential consultation support for educators while exercising a high level of discretion and independent judgment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with evidence-based integration of emerging technologies in support of student learning.

  • Expertise in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), teaching for neurodiversity, and cognitive accessibility.

  • Expertise in student mental health and wellbeing.

  • Expertise in STEM-related fields.

NOTE: Candidates will be asked to submit a portfolio of previous work samples demonstrating effectiveness in teaching, workshop facilitation, resource development, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Work with CATLR leadership to shape and implement strategies for educating and supporting educators involved in university-wide priorities. To include: working collaboratively with educators to help them develop skills of systematic inquiry into their teaching; consulting individually with educators on the design and constructive alignment of on-ground, online and hybrid learning experiences; helping advance innovation in educational practice within CATLR and across the University.
  • Design, deliver, and make evidence-based improvements of on-ground, hybrid, and online offerings for educators from across the university, with an emphasis on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).  Develop self-paced courses and online resources to advance educational practices.
  • Support and/or lead initiatives that have a center-, department-, or university-wide impact.
  • Contribute to scholarly teaching, including: maintaining an active practice of scholarly inquiry related to teaching and learning; supporting grant and research work to advance teaching and learning, both at the university and in higher education more broadly.
  • Other duties as assigned.
