Who we are

The Academy for Advanced Telecommunications and Learning Technology (AATLT) does research and testing in advanced communications systems.  The areas of focus include 4G and 5G wireless, Next Generation 911, network interoperability, applications testing,  and standards conformance testing.  Our customers include the Department of Homeland Security,  Department of Defense,  Department of Transportation,  State Government and others.  We are an interdisciplinary department that works collaboratively not only with other departments within the Texas A&M University System but with Universities all over the world.

We are seeking an Associate Director to assist our Director and Principal Investigator with proposal development, compliance and reporting. This person will also support the outreach and multi-disciplinary collaborative aspects of the Academy. Proven managerial skills, particularly in higher education or a non profit, and great communication skills will be an asset to serve in this position. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Eight years of progressively responsible management experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated communication skills

  • Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree

  • Eight or more years of experience in responsible management positions, in higher education or non profit, include supervisory experience disaster response

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • Project Management (PMP)

Preferred Other Factors:

  • Frequent travel to regional, national and international meetings/conferences required

Responsibilities:

  • Proposal Development - Assist the Director and research teams with proposal development and program sponsorships.

  • Leadership - Provide guidance, leadership and priority planning for the programs and initiatives for the Academy.

  • Compliance - Monitor project compliance of the unit with agencies, university and government funding sources, policies and procedures.

  • Outreach - Support the outreach and multi-disciplinary collaborative aspects of the Academy.

  • Budget Tracking - Monitor project expenditures and track against proposal budgets. 

  • Liaison - Serve as spokesperson for the various program and center activities and liaison to the academic and business community.

  • Reporting - Prepare presentation and reports and performs other duties as assigned.

  • Other Duties - Perform other duties as assigned.
