Job Summary
The College of Science at the University of Utah seeks a frontline major gift fundraiser with excellent communication and relationship building skills to join an impact driven, collaborative team of fundraising and alumni relations professionals to advance the mission of the College of Science. This team serves the departments of Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry, Geology & Geophysics, Mathematics, Materials Science & Engineering, Mining Engineering, Physics & Astronomy and the School of Biological Sciences. This position will report to the Director of Development, College of Science.
The Associate Development Director will primarily be responsible for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects capable of making gifts of $25,000 or more. The position will manage a dynamic portfolio of donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporations, to build long-term relationships and connect donor philanthropic interests with priority needs of the College of Science.
This position will actively participate in development activities for the College including, but not limited to prospect research; developing proposals and appeals; cultivating alumni, donors and/or prospective donors; soliciting gifts; ensuring appropriate stewardship and supporting local and regional College/University of Utah events.
Responsibilities
  • Secure financial resources for the College of Science by soliciting major gifts of $25,000+ from alumni and friends of the College.
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors though a mix of email, phone, video and in-person visits.
  • Manage a dynamic portfolio of donors/prospects, prioritizing those who are capable of making 5-7 figure gifts.
  • Conduct local and regional travel as assigned to develop long-term philanthropic relationships with alumni and friends of the College of Science.
  • Develop and maintain a robust understanding of fundraising knowledge in order to assist donors with various gift vehicles, including cash, legacy giving, securities and real property.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with College of Science advancement team and colleagues at the University of Utah Office of Advancement.
  • Assist with annual fundraising efforts, donor stewardship, regular College of Science events, endowment reporting, maintaining accurate donor/constituent data, prospect list requests, alumni relations/communications initiatives, and gift processing.
  • Maintain donor confidentiality and comply with University of Utah policies and procedures.
  • File contact reports and fundraising plans in Unite (Salesforce) in an accurate, professional, and timely manner.
  • When appropriate, facilitate meetings for donors with department and College leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience (One year of education is equivalent to two years of experience).
  • Four years of related experience.

Preferences
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, coupled with a professional demeanor.
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated successful fundraising experience, ideally working for an institution of higher education or experience in alumni relations and/or donor communications.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, while actively engaging and collaborating with others.
  • High standard of ethics and commitment to working confidentially with sensitive donor information and records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, showcasing advanced skills in planning, prioritizing, multitasking, and adapting to changing circumstances.
  • Experience working with Salesforce or other CRM databases.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.
