Position Promotional Lead
Loyola Marymount University, a member of the West Coast Conference, seeks a qualified candidate for Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Fan Engagement. The Associate AD directs, develops, implements, and supports comprehensive strategies, tactics, plans, activities, and projects that drive revenue (including ticket sales and corporate sponsorship activation), increase visibility and attendance, supports recruitment, and enhances in-game and fan experiences.

Position Summary

The Associate AD for Marketing and Fan Engagement is the senior marketing leader for LMU Athletics and directs, develops, implements, and supports comprehensive strategies, tactics, plans, activities, and projects that drive revenue (including tickets sales and corporate sponsorship activation), increase visibility and attendance, supports recruitment, and enhances in-game experiences and fan experiences. The Associate AD serves parallel purposes, being responsible for tactical production work (including content generation) while also overseeing budget, personnel, and resources responsible for producing integrated marketing products that achieve identified outcomes, generate revenue, support community engagement efforts, raise Athletics' profile, and align with the university's mission.

The Associate AD is embedded within LMU Athletics, partnering closely with the Athletic Director, and LMU Athletics coaches and senior team. The incumbent reports to the Vice President for Marketing and Brand Management and is fully integrated with LMU MarComm. The Associate AD ensures a seamless workflow and that Athletics and MarComm strategies, policies, expectations, and priorities are synchronized and aligned.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Manage effectively, coordinate, and implement internal and external marketing for LMU Athletics, prioritizing resources and aligning expectations, needs, and focus with the LMU Athletics Senior Staff.
  • Develop comprehensive marketing plans detailing efforts and goals to maximize revenue, increase attendance, promote programs, engage the community, and elevate in-game and fan experiences.
  • Synchronize key production areas on game days to ensure execution of established marketing/promotional plans, including, but not limited to, promotions, giveaways, crowd engagement, video, and game production, etc., for all assigned home games. An emphasis will be placed on providing memorable experiences for fans and creating a home court/field advantage for student-athletes.
  • Create and coordinate the annual marketing calendar and deadlines to ensure revenue and attendance targets.
  • Partner with LMU Athletics external team to create, develop, and implement digital media plans that maximize social platforms, raise awareness, and increase positive engagement across all program platforms.
  • Assure the high-quality of LMU Athletics marketing deliverables are integrated and aligned with the university's comprehensive standards, policies, and protocols related to image, tone, style, narrative, visual identity, and brand. Develop solutions that address LMU Athletics needs and further enhance the university's brand through proactive collaboration with MarComm team members.
  • Produce, edit, and collaborate with key stakeholders to approve traditional and digital communications and marketing products (graphics, videos, podcasts, etc.) that support LMU Athletics activities and programs and engage identified target audiences. Develop and deliver video productions, event promotions, recruitment or fundraising communications, and awareness/engagement campaigns.
  • Manage and implement LMU Athletics email marketing campaigns, collaborating with content providers and partners to ensure campaigns align with priorities and best practices. Create templates and engage in A/B testing for fine tuning and improvement.
  • Create, develop, and implement digital media plans that include social media components and content to develop and grow LMU Athletics across platforms. Coordinate with MarComm colleagues to incorporate LMU Athletics' objectives into broader communications and marketing activities, talking points, presentations, reports, social media efforts, and other channels.
  • Collaborate with campus and community stakeholders in support of marketing and promotion of athletics events and initiatives.
  • Oversee budget for LMU Athletics marketing and promotions. Exercise independent judgment on purchases and budgetary decisions for LMU Athletics Marketing and Fan Engagement unit. Ensure projects are completed by identified deadlines and on budget. Assure successful outcomes by adopting best-practice project management methodologies, quality assurance metrics, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Develop and maintain robust and impactful marketing internship program. Serve as the primary liaison with the LMU Spirit Squad and mascot, including budget oversight.
  • Serve as a liaison, uniting the efforts of the LMU Athletics and MarComm to ensure seamless workflow, priorities, and resource allocation. Work closely with LMU Athletics public relations professionals and LMU's Public and Media Relations team as appropriate and as assigned.
  • Adopt self-improvement methodologies. Evaluate tactics, assess impact, and adjust strategies to improve continuously upon the effectiveness of the LMU Athletics' communications, marketing and outreach efforts. Explore non-traditional marketing opportunities, conduct marketing research, and oversee grassroots programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

NCAA, Conference, and University Rules Compliance

  • Conduct all aspects of duties and responsibilities in accordance with the rules and policies established by the university, MarComm, Athletics, all sports conference affiliations, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
  • Complete all rules compliance information as required.
  • Participate in an annual evaluation of adherence to rules compliance.
  • Conduct evaluation of adherence to rules compliance with all assigned personnel on an annual basis.

Requisite Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred. Degrees in marketing, communications, or public relations preferred.
  • 3-5 years' experience in athletics marketing, promotions, special events, or administration preferred. Evidence of successful service and leadership in athletics marketing positions of increasing responsibility required.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and executing across multiple marketing channels and media; highly developed skills in communications writing and editing;
  • Demonstrated competency with common office productivity software suites (including Microsoft Office), and creative production software (including Adobe Creativity Suite), email marketing tools, social media management tools, web content management systems, quality assurance systems, ADA compliance systems, and analytics reporting software.
  • Must be able to perform successfully in a fast-paced, intellectually intense, and service-oriented environment. Experience working successfully within a complex organization. Willing and able to adjust to changing demands and shifting priorities.
  • Evidence of creative and ambitious leadership style with a track record for leading both strategic and tactical marketing outcomes;
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and entrepreneurially; experience creating, developing and implementing new initiatives;
  • Ability to produce high quality deliverables with meticulous attention to detail. Must be metrics-driven and results-oriented with demonstrated analytical skills.
  • Ability to provide quick turnaround and updates for multiple requests while maintaining a strong reputation of high-quality work.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and entrepreneurially; experience creating, developing, and implementing new initiatives.
