This position will develop, coordinate, and implement Assistive Technology (AT) services for students with disabilities; thereby, facilitating equal access to technology and electronic information and allowing for full participation in the programs offered by the university.  This full-time exempt position, which serves a diverse student population with disabilities, is located at the University of Colorado Denver Campus in Denver, Colorado.


Assistive Technology Coordinator
What you will do:
  • Oversee all operations of the assistive technology lab including faculty and student assistance and training, procurement and installation of AT, and the hiring and supervising of 3-5 student employees.

  • Provide one on one training of assistive technology to eligible students; develop and promote training in multiple modalities to best serve students based on documented disability related needs.

  • Consult with faculty and staff regarding accessible instructional technology applications and refer them to the appropriate on-campus resources for assistance.

  • Maintain and update accessible technology, licensed software, subscriptions, memberships, service maintenance agreements and office equipment warranties for the Assistive Technology (AT) Computer Lab; oversee assistive technology support across campus.

  • Oversee the alternative format production; recommend policies and procedures related to accessible instructional materials.

  • Coordinate video captioning accommodations and delivery of pre-recorded media content by collaborating with faculty, students and the contracted captioning company. 

  • Promote campus wide digital accessibility by serving on various committees and task forces;

  • Troubleshoot and implement changes in our online accommodation system called Accommodate; serve as Accommodate team lead.

  • Maintain data of usage of the AT Lab, running reports using Accommodate; gather feedback from the users of the assistive technology lab.

  • Ensure that the Accommodate database is updated with meeting summary notes and AT Assessment meetings and trainings.

  • Ensure all computers in the AT Lab and the AT Lab HP printer/scanner are functional and updated.

  • Hire and supervise student employees for accessibility support assistant (Student Assistant III – AT Lab); provide daily supervision of student employees; host weekly student staff meetings; post job descriptions on Handshake as necessary; review resumes, interview, and hire/train positions; approve and track bi-weekly timesheets.

  • Update and recommend changes to the office website using SiteFinity content management system.

  • Provide business services support for the office; review all upcoming purchases for the office with the Director; process purchase orders and payments as necessary, ensuring timely delivery.

  • Complete Expense Reports for any credit purchases; maintain purchasing records and receipts.

  • Maintain current knowledge of disability-related issues, including relevant case law and rulings.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in computer information systems, information technology, instructional technology, computer science or related field.

  • One (1) year of experience providing assistive technology assessments.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.


Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Master’s degree in a field related to computer information systems, information technology, instructional technology, computer science or related field.

  • Experience in providing postsecondary accommodations for students with disabilities.

  • Experience with web accessibility and instructional technology.

  • Experience with alternative media production (conversion of textbooks to electronic books). 

  • Experience in a computer lab user environment.

  • Experience with management, configuration and troubleshooting of assistive technologies.

  • Experience in assistive/accessible technologies, creating accessible documents and course materials, web accessibility and managing video captioning.

  • Experience training others on how to use assistive technologies is highly desired.

  • Experience working with Sections 504, 508 and WCAG 2.2.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advance knowledge of Office 365, Windows operating systems, ability to provide basic desktop support and printing/scanning support to students, and current trends in the assistive technology field.

  • Direct assistive technology and instructional technology experience, and an understanding of electronic and information technology (E&IT) accessibility and its convergence with assistive technologies.

  • Applicable federal and state laws, i.e., Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act & Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, along with relevant case law pertaining to disability in higher education.

  • Ability to work independently

  • Strong management and leadership qualities

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Clear communication, both written and verbal

  • Organization, attention to detail, and time management

  • Experience supporting students from underrepresented and marginalized backgrounds with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and a professional understanding of intersectionality of identities in disability services.

  • Ability to explain technical concepts to people without strong technical skills.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $55,000.  

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
