Job Summary
The School of Education (SOE), Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA invites applications for a full-time tenure line faculty member at the rank of assistant professor for the Department of Special Education. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the Special Education Department, advising, engaging in professional development activities, providing service to the field and others, participating in departmental work and meetings, as well as SOE meetings and committee work. Areas of expertise/teaching may include but are not limited to: assessment, policies and procedures in Special Education, research design, physical development in early childhood Special Education, general early childhood Special Education, ABA strategies, ABA ethics, functional analysis, behavior change strategies, and consultation and supervision. Interested candidates would be joining a supportive faculty, focused on student development and learning. We seek a candidate who will complement and possibly expand our strengths in areas that support the institutional mission of educating students for lives of leadership and service for the common good. Essential Functions
  • Teach 18 semester credits during the academic year in areas of Special Education 
  • Collaborate with department, School of Education, and community colleagues
  • Advise candidates, which may include guidance in completing capstone projects
  • Create, develop, and advance a scholarly research agenda
  • Active participation on committees within and outside the university
  • Supervision of candidates in field experiences

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Special Education or related area 
    • ABD applicants may be considered, with expectation that the candidate will have degree in hand by July 15, 2023
  • Minimum of three years K-12 teaching and/or clinical experience
    • Individuals with clinical experience must also have staff training experience to be considered
  • Has detailed understanding of the field of Behavior Analysis 
  • Established record of working with children and/or adolescents and families.
  • Demonstrated interest in serving as a mentor to students seeking advanced degrees in Special Education or related fields
  • Evidence of effective, collaborative engagement. 
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with community stakeholders.
  • Record of working with K-12 educational system
  • BCBA or BCBA-D certified 
  • Evidence of teaching or training excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability of teaching and mentoring individuals with diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences, and an investment in social justice, equity, and inclusion as evidenced by prior innovative and successful inclusive teaching strategies.
