POSITION: Assistant Professor of Trumpet (Tenure-Track, salary negotiable)

QUALIFICATIONS: The qualified candidate will have a Doctorate (DMA, EdD, or PhD) in Trumpet, with a preferred second cognate in Jazz. The candidate will demonstrate professional-level performance artistry as a soloist, as a chamber musician, and as a symphonic player. At least two years of previous college-level teaching are preferred. The ability to creatively engage students in the studio and the classroom and to team effectively with the other trumpet and brass faculty will be expected along with the ability to teach a variety of trumpet and brass-related subjects, including graduate-level courses in brass pedagogy and other courses in music. Active participation in professional organizations will also be expected.

DUTIES: The position primarily includes teaching Trumpet at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Teaching assignments in a second cognate, such as jazz, improvisation, or jazz theory, will complete the required teaching load. Serve along other faculty in the Brass Quintet. Maintain active program of creative and intellectual contributions. Actively recruit trumpet students. Serve as requested on school, college, and university committees and in leadership positions in community and professional organizations.

INSTITUTION:  The School of Music at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX, has 32 full-time faculty, 7 part-time faculty, and 300 music majors. Bachelor of Music degrees are offered in performance, music therapy, composition, music education, and music industry in arts management and music technology. Graduate degrees include the Master of Arts in Music and the Master of Music in performance. West Texas A&M University has approximately 10,000 students and is fully accredited by NASM. Canyon is fifteen miles south of Amarillo (population 210,000) in the Texas Panhandle. Amarillo boasts a vibrant cultural life including the Amarillo Symphony, Amarillo Opera, Chamber Music Amarillo, Lone Star Ballet, Amarillo Little Theatre, the Masterworks Chorale, Amarillo Youth Choirs, and others.
