Job Description

The West Texas A&M College of Engineering invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Mathematics to begin fall of 2024.  The preferred candidates holds a doctoral degree in applied mathematics or statistics. 

Background: 

West Texas A&M University is an institution of over 9500 students located in the Texas Panhandle.  The College currently has 40 full-time faculty members, approximately 750 undergraduate students and 120 graduate students, and has an ambitious plan for growth, recognition, and visibility. West Texas A&M University's College of Engineering offers diverse programs in mechanical, civil, electrical, and environmental engineering as well as engineering technology, mathematics and computer science. Responsibilities: 

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in mathematics and statistics.  
  • Develop a scholarly research program incorporating graduate and undergraduate students. 
  • Serve as an academic advisor to students in the major. 
  • Assist college leadership in driving curriculum design and development. 
  • Active participation on discipline, college and/or university committees.
  • Active engagement in professional development activities.
  • Be involved in education outreach activities.
  • Willingness to assume other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications

Doctoral degree in applied mathematics or mathematical statistics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Contribute to a strong mathematics instructional program by serving as instructor for undergraduate and graduate level mathematics and statistics courses
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in mathematics education and discipline specific research. 
  • Demonstrate a commitment to pursuit of externally–funded scholarly research.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
