Portland Seminary of George Fox University announces a faculty & administrative position in Leadership & Pastoral Studies, to begin on August 15, 2023.

Rank: Assistant Professor, but open to exceptionally qualified candidates at the Associate level.

  • Teaching
    • Teach general and specialized courses in leadership, formation and practical studies on the Master's level.
    • Teach/serve as Project faculty in the Doctoral programs.
  • Scholarship
    • Demonstrate capability to connect academic practical studies discourse with the vibrant life of the Church.
    • Engage in public dissemination of research in relation to practical studies disciplines and spiritual formation in the context of congregational, parachurch, and missional leadership.
  • Administrative
    • Serve part-time in the doctoral program providing teaching and administrative support.
    • Provide administrative support for the Practical studies curriculum in the new Masters curriculum giving attention to competencies and student success as well as vetting and training adjuncts for Praxis cohorts.
    • Serve on faculty committees, participate in the life of the university and seminary community, provide vocational and spiritual support to students, and engage in other duties associated with full time faculty members.
    • All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, professors agree to live in agreement with theCommunity Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in theStatement of Faith .
    • A PhD or D.Min in a field related to leadership, practical studies and pastoral theology, or a related field such as organizational leadership.
    • Evidence of the ability to lead, design and implement transformation within a larger system, such as a congregation or a non-profit organization is essential.
    • Candidates with additional training and expertise in Spiritual Formation training are preferred.
    • Teaching experience and commitment to support online and hybrid course delivery at the graduate level is
    • An ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is required.
    • Demonstrated commitment to mentoring and guiding persons who are called to serve the church or other ministry contexts.
    • Demonstration of engaging in practical studies scholarship such as pastoral conference presentations and accessible publications.
    • Commitment to training both women and men as pastors and ministry leaders.

    • All candidates must have legal authority to permanently work in the US.

    Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant teaching experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
