Loyola University Maryland’s Department of Engineering is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering to start in July 2024. We are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic individuals with high professionalism, a strong commitment to undergraduate education, and the ability to motivate and engage students. The ideal candidate will be committed to maintaining a productive research program and delivering exceptional undergraduate education at a dynamic liberal arts university. The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to LUM’s goal of equity and inclusion within the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. They should also be comfortable teaching a range of mechanical engineering courses, from introductory courses such as Statics, Dynamics, and Thermodynamics, to more advanced courses such as Mechanical Design, Fluid Dynamics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Solid Mechanics, and Engineering Materials and Manufacturing Processes. Candidates with industrial and/or research expertise in automation, advanced manufacturing systems, robotics, and mechatronics are of particular interest.
The successful candidate is expected to:
· Teach three (3) engineering courses per semester.
· Develop and teach undergraduate courses across the Mechanical Engineering curriculum.
· Establish a productive research program that produces PhD-level scholarly products.
· Engage in departmental, college, and university-level service.
· Contribute to the advising of undergraduate students.
· Pursue innovation and inclusive engineering pedagogy.
· Collaborate with faculty within the department and across the university.

Required Qualifications

· Have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering.
· Demonstrate the potential for teaching excellence across all levels of the undergraduate curriculum.
· Demonstrate the potential for significant scholarly activity.
· Experience or interest in high-impact teaching practices and inclusive pedagogy.
Preferred Qualifications
We seek candidates with the following:
· Teaching experience in university-level mechanical engineering courses
· A proven track record of excellence in research in Mechanical Design or related mechanical engineering disciplines.
· Demonstrated expertise in Mechanical Design, but other areas of interest include, but are not limited to, automation, advanced manufacturing systems, robotics, and mechatronics.
· Industrial or research experience in the application of mechanical engineering.
· Appreciation of and/or engagement in high-impact teaching practices
· Commitment to the goals of education in the Jesuit tradition
· Commitment to approaches for creating a sense of inclusion and belonging in the classroom.
· Ability to mentor and advise undergraduate engineering students or students in similar disciplines.
· Willingness to mentor and advise engineering student clubs.
· Willingness to pursue department, division, college, or university roles.
