Job Description

The Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice at West Texas A&M University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice for the Fall of 2024. West Texas A&M University offers a quality liberal arts education at the undergraduate and graduate levels to a diverse student body through face-to-face and online venues. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to add to the department’s core areas of corrections, policing, and courts.

This is a full-time, 9-month faculty position. The successful candidate will teach a full course load of 9 credit hours per semester. The teaching load will consist of teaching advanced undergraduate and graduate-level courses. The undergraduate teaching will be a mix of online as well as face-to-face. Other responsibilities include advising students, maintaining an active research agenda that results in peer-reviewed publications, and participating in departmental, college, and university service.   

Required Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related field is required. A Juris Doctorate or terminal master’s degree will not be considered for this position. Candidates who are ABD will be considered and are strongly encouraged to apply. However, a Ph.D. is required by the start of the appointment. The specialization area is open, but the successful candidate will be expected to teach various courses.   

Preferred Qualifications

A strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts environment

Teaching experience at the university level

Experience in online teaching and online course development

Ability to teach research methods

Publication in academic journals and ongoing research that is likely to result in publications
