Job Description

The Department of Computational, Engineering, and Mathematical Sciences at Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) seeks applications from qualified candidates, with a passion for teaching and scholarship, for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Computer Science and Cybersecurity. Excellence in teaching at all levels of the curriculum, participation in grant-funded research projects, and the ability to collaborate with colleagues on curricular and programmatic issues is expected. Growth of the two Master’s programs in Computer Science and Cybersecurity is a priority for the university. The base teaching load at A&M-SA for Assistant Professors is 3/3. Summer teaching assignments may be available but are not guaranteed. Service to the department, college, university, and the community is expected.

The Department provides a rich educational experience for students interested in computing, cybersecurity, engineering technology, and mathematics. We offer bachelor’s degree programs in these disciplines as also support courses in physics for STEM majors. In addition, we offer two Master's degree programs, one each in Computer Science and Cybersecurity. Our students enjoy learning in person and in online/hybrid courses with small class sizes in high-tech classrooms. We emphasize hands-on experiential learning and critical thinking, and the participation of students in research under our faculty’s mentorship.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science and cybersecurity.

  • Contribute to impactful research in cybersecurity

  • Contribute to the service mission of the university.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree from a regionally accredited institution in technical areas of Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field. ABD will be considered if the requirements for the Ph.D. degree are completed before the appointment begins (degree conferral may happen later).

  • Record of peer-reviewed scholarly work.

  • Excellent skills in interaction and communication with students, faculty, and staff.


Preferred Experience:

  • Computer science or cybersecurity teaching at the university level (Graduate Teaching Assistant Experience counts ).

In the cover letter please speak to the following topics:

  • Engagement with, and competence in, teaching computer science and cybersecurity courses

  • Agenda for scholarship in cybersecurity and the potential for independent research and grant writing.

  • Long-term plans for involvement in enhancing the breadth, depth, and quality of our students' educational experience.
