Job Description

The Department of Psychology and Communication at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks an Assistant Professor of Biological Psychology/Neuroscience or related field (tenure-track, 9- month position) to begin Fall 2024. Duties include teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses. A reduced load (2-2 for the first two years) is provided to allow for other duties, such as publishing research in psychology or closely related areas, and serving on departmental, university, and professional committees.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate in Biological Psychology, Neuroscience, or related field. ABDs will also be considered but must have earned a doctorate before appointment. Our department offers extensive opportunities for bilingual-bicultural research and we would especially welcome candidates whose research closely aligns with this. However, strong scholars across all areas of Biological Psychology or Neuroscience (for example, but not limited to, the biological and neural basis of language and cognition, both at the electrophysiological and anatomical levels, and related fields) will be fully considered.

We desire candidates who: (1) have a strong record of or potential for sustained publication in peer- reviewed journals (commensurate with experience), (2) have the potential for or prior experience with seeking and/or securing external grant funding, (3) have a strong desire to work with student populations, and (4) have the ability to teach in areas that complement or strengthen our undergraduate and graduate psychology programs.

TAMIU is a growing university of over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant bilingual and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000 on the U.S./Mexico border. For more information, visit www.tamiu.edu. We offer a reduced teaching load for junior faculty to allow for scholarly activities/publications. Additional pay is available for summer teaching. TAMIU offers competitive salaries and a benefits package covering health insurance, retirement benefits, and paid parental leave. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered by the university.
