Job Description

Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK), a Member of The Texas A&M University System, invites applications for a highly energetic tenure-track Assistant Professor in Animal Science. This position is a nine-month appointment, with 25% research and 75% teaching responsibilities (nine credit hours each in the spring and fall semesters). The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded, multidisciplinary research program in livestock nutrition. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain close-working relationships with food-animal industry stakeholders, mentor graduate students, and teach undergraduate courses in animal nutrition, along with additional undergraduate and graduate courses related to their area of expertise in the Department of Animal Science and Veterinary Technology (ASVT). A competitive negotiable salary and benefit package will be offered that will be commensurate with the candidate’s level of expertise. Availability for employment by fall 2024 semester is expected. 

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Animal Science, Dairy Science, or a closely related field from an accredited university. Evidence of successful teaching and basic and/or applied research experience in animalnutrition, livestock production, orrelated research areas are preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, and candidates should have evidence of scholarly achievement in teaching and research. Other requirements include a commitment to high standards of academic professionalism and a positive attitude for teamwork. 

The Department

The ASVT at TAMUK is an integral part of the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. In addition to awarding a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, with degree emphases in General Animal Science, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, and Animal-Wildlife Veterinary Technology, and a Master of Science degree in Animal Science, ASVT is home to the only four-year accredited Veterinary Technology program in Texas and the renowned King Ranch® Institute for Ranch Management. The Department of ASVT is the largest academic department on the picturesque campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville, with 13 faculty, 18graduate and approximately 490 undergraduate students. The 650-acre Texas A&M University-Kingsville Farm houses beef cows, meat goats, and hair-sheep operations, with a new swine facility under construction, and provides students with hands-on training in basic food animal production management techniques. The ASVT values innovative teaching, experiential learning, global and historical perspectives, and encourages collaborative endeavors.
