The Opportunity

The Chemistry Department at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor, anticipated to begin August 2024. The selected candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous independent research program, excel in teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels, and provide service to the university, college, department, and professional organizations.

The Department seeks outstanding candidates with research focus in organic chemistry, biochemistry, computational chemistry, radiochemistry, or environmental chemistry. Exceptional candidates with multidisciplinary interests across other areas of chemistry are also encouraged to apply.

Research strengths within the Chemistry Department include materials chemistry, biochemistry, environmental chemistry, organic chemistry, photonics, chemistry education research, and forensic chemistry. The Department of Chemistry at UCF is a diverse, collegial department that values collaborations and mentorship across subdisciplines. The Chemistry Department has productive academic programs including the Chemistry Ph.D., Chemistry M.S., Forensic Science M.S., ACS-approved B.S. programs in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Biochemistry, and a B.A. program in Chemistry. UCF values interdisciplinary research and the successful applicant will be encouraged to develop strong research interactions within and outside the department and across disciplines. Chemistry Department faculty have active research collaborations within the College of Sciences as well as with the College of Optics and Photonics, the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the College of Medicine, the College of Community Innovation and Education, the Florida Solar Energy Center, the NanoScience Technology Center, and the National Center for Forensic Science. The Chemistry Department is active in external academic collaborations and industrial collaborations locally and around the world including with the Scripps Research Institute, Mayo Clinic, and more.

Minimum Qualifications:

A doctorate in Chemistry or a related science from an accredited institution, and at least two years of postdoctoral experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will demonstrate evidence of published research in one or more of the following areas: organic chemistry, biochemistry, computational chemistry, radiochemistry, or environmental chemistry.

Preference will also be given to candidates with demonstrated multidisciplinary interests across other areas of chemistry.
