The Department of Public Health Sciences (DPHS) seeks applicants to apply for two full-time, tenure-track/tenured positions to start in summer 2023. The new faculty will join a dynamic group of 23 full time departmental faculty who are dedicated to a team science approach and collaboration with other Clemson University researchers, clinician-researchers at the PRISMA Health System (Greenville and Columbia, SC), Clemson Rural Health and the new DPHS Center for Public Health Modeling, Preparedness and Response. The new faculty will contribute to strengthening and leading statewide initiatives to improve the state’s population health, reduce health disparities, and increase efficiency of healthcare systems. DPHS faculty members integrate research (spanning clinics to communities), education and service, employing innovative approaches, leveraging enabling technologies, and embracing unique partnerships with communities and clinicians.

For this position, we seek applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level in epidemiology. Research topics are open including chronic disease, cancer, environmental health, infectious disease, maternal and child health, mental health, healthcare access and health disparities. The incumbent will teach a negotiated load of graduate and/or undergraduate courses in one (or more) of our degree programs including MS/PhD in Applied Health Research & Evaluation degree program, Master of Public Health program (under development), Graduate Certificate in Clinical and Translational Research, and BS in Health Science degree program.

Candidates must have a strong interest in building a funded research portfolio, working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, and obtaining research grants. Competitive applicants will be those with a doctorate degree, strong theoretical training, quantitative and/or qualitative research skills, and excellent oral and written communication. We are looking for faculty members who will shape the next generation of innovation in health research. The incumbent will provide service to the department/college/university through committee membership, mentoring students, and other opportunities to help advance the academic environment.

Qualifications

Successful candidates for the position will meet the following requirements:

• Hold an earned doctorate in epidemiology or related field. A clinical doctorate with relevant research and training in epidemiological research will also be considered
• Maintain an active research agenda with projects that seek to prevent diseases and improve population health
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Additional preferred qualifications:

• Previous research and working relationships with healthcare systems
• Previous exposure and/or current interest in working in a team-science environment

Associate Professor level requirements: To be considered for a tenured associate professor level appointment the incumbent must demonstrate academic experience, maturity, previous mentoring, effective teaching, and substantial scholarship. The incumbent must demonstrate a track record of attracting extramural research funding independently and/or by supporting successful research teams. The incumbent should be tenured or previously tenured at time of application or clearly exceed all requirements for immediate appointment with tenure as outlined in the Clemson University Faculty Manual and department guidelines.
