GENERAL DUTIES
Assistant Media Services Technicians, under direct supervision, perform simple, routine work involving the transportation, setting-up, operation and preventative maintenance of audio-visual and related electronic equipment, such as projectors of all types, audio and video recorders, video and photographic cameras, portable public address systems and video maintenance and repair equipment. Must have a general knowledge pertinent of Windows and Apple based computers software perform related work.
General Work Tasks
- Install, adjust, and operate electronic equipment to record, edit, and transmit radio and television
programs, motion pictures, video conferencing, or multimedia presentations. Diagnose and
resolve media system problems under supervision.
- Mix and regulate sound inputs and feeds or coordinate audio feeds with television pictures.
Compress, digitize, duplicate, and store audio and video data.
- Perform minor repairs and routine cleaning of audio and video equipment. Notify supervisors
when equipment repairs are needed.
- Monitor incoming and outgoing pictures and sound feeds to ensure quality and notify supervisors
of any possible problems.
- Obtain, set up, and load media of scheduled productions and play back. Analyze and maintain data
logs for audio-visual activities.
- Maintain inventories of audio and videotapes and related supplies. Inform users of audio and
videotaping service policies and procedures. Sets up and operates audio/video equipment.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance on audio/video equipment. Assists in maintaining
inventory records of equipment and parts.
- Notifies supervisor when minor equipment repairs are needed Transports equipment for on-site
use or shop repair.
- Operates motor vehicle, as necessary.

Information Technology (IT) is the division of the Graduate Center responsible for voice, video, and data systemsand services. The mission of this unit is to promote, facilitate, and support the effective use of technology in thelearning process, in instruction and research, and in processing and accessing institutional information.
Reporting directly to the Director of IT Client Services, the Media Services Support Assistant provides support foraudio visual technologies and video conferencing systems in conference, training, auditoria, and/or public spaces aswell as support desktop video conferencing software. This position is based at the GC-ASRC and will be assignedto GC-Fifth when necessary. This position is 100% in person. This is a part-time role.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Perform routine maintenance and problem diagnosis for projectors, Audio Systems, and Displays.
- Troubleshoot and install Audio and Videoconferencing systems.
- Make modifications in the field, know how to crimp, solder and maintain cable management.
- Ability to read and utilize blueprints and audio/video flow diagrams.
- Utilize audio mixer software to calibrate and eliminate echo and feedback.
- Ability to use test equipment to troubleshoot system problems.
- Gather and analyze system logs and system settings for codecs,control systems, mixers, and complex broadcast equipment as needed.
- Coordinates media communications using the Outlook Calendar and Track-It! tickets; documents work viaemail, spreadsheets, and ticket software.

- Ensure all media spaces are presentable for use at GC-Fifth and GC-ASRC.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, climb ladders, crawl under tables, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENT: A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York may be required for certain assignments. Ability to work off schedule, flexible.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Operational Skills:
- Proficient in the safe use of hand and power tools
- Proficient with solder, compression and crimp type connectors
- Ability to think and work independently and meet necessary deadlines
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- PC proficient ??? must already know how to utilize a computer including Apple product
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of media experience
- Experience with Audio Visual equipment, configurations and design
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Possess strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and excellent problem-solvingskills
- Maintain ongoing knowledge of current technology and learn new technology and skills.
*A New York State Driver's license is not needed for this position.
COMPENSATION
New Hire - $15.38/hr
Incumbent Minimum- $17.38/hr
*This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment.
